I found myself over my head in some of the trail sections, but I learned a LOT! I dropped the bike 3 times while stopped and broke the right side mirror. Fortunately, nothing dented! I'm doing a full write up soon! My bike now has 8900 miles and has develpoed the "whistle." Can one install the Supertrapp with the internal discs and NOT rejet the carb?? My reason is that I do not want a reduction in gas mileage that I have been reading so much about. Thanks in advance! The mounts are black tubular steel that connects to the passenger peg, and the main rack mount (plus maybe the rear turn signal mount, I forget). The mounts are made by the same German company that makes the centerstand for the KLR (5 stars or 3 stars I think). You can purcase them through GIVI USA but they can only get them ever so often and I am told they sell out quickly. I think they go for aroun $150US for the set. Off road you can add gaitors to keep water from running down the boots if you need to do a toe dab in a stream. Unless you have size 13+ feet, that is. In my case, I found some forign military surplus (British, I think) NBC overboots that easily go over my size 13 hiking or GI boots. The US-issue NBC booties are not as nice IMHO, but would probably work. The forign ones are utterly waterproof. - -Tom '96 KLR 650 ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Aug 1998 21:15:03 -0700 From: "Darrel & Deanna" Subject: (klr650) Cross country trail Darren- Was it maybe the Pony Express Trail? But I changed the procedure for my bike. I cut off the foot about 1 1/2" and saved it. I cut the main tube off 2". I then welded a 3/4" x 10 nut to the main tube. A 5" piece of threaded bolt was welded inside the remaining tube on the foot. A sleeve was required to fill the gap. On the threaded bolt I put a half nut to use a locking nut. Then the threaded bolt was screwed into the main shaft with the nut on the end. Advantages: infinite adjustment within the range of the bolt length, very secure, less holes to drill in line, easy to orient the angled foot when on the ground. Disadvantages: slight increase in weight (does not bounce down on bumps), some would call it more ugly (bolt threads show), large wrench needed for adjusting (I don't carry one that large--not a problem) welding isn't my bag (good neighbor), repainting is required. My preference for this method (especially now that it is done) suits me. - -Ves A12 _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
