I didn't forget about engine braking, but at his stage of development, learning the controlled panic stop is more important. If you are bothering to downshift during a panic stop, you aren't doing it right! I love my Kawasaki windshield, and I'm getting ready to put it back on for the fall, but its a love / hate thing among the list. I am 6'2", and sit high in the saddle. For me, sitting upright with good posture while riding results in my helmet being in a clean unbuffetted streamline with no more helmet noise than normal. If I crotch down and lean over, my helmet goes into the "bubble", with my eye level just above the top of the screen, resulting in a ultra quiet ride at 70+ mph. Shorter riders have had good results by trimming a little at a time off the top of the screen to achieve this result, and at half the price of the Rifle or Clearview, you can't go wrong (well, I got my screen at cost from the local dealer). Yes, for a few reasons I'll describe in my technique. I like to bleed brakes with worn pads in the caliper/s. This way, I can pump the slave pistons a fair way out of the caliper so that I can push the pistons back in manually. When this is done, a fair bit of fluid can gush into the master, so it helps to have only a small amount of fluid in the master and the lid on. I do this so that old fluid is pushed into the system which can then be replaced with fresh fluid. Without doing this, you would end up with new fluid in the master and line, and still have old fluid down behind the pistons where the heat on the fluid is highest. Pushing the slave piston/s back in (let's call it a "backbleed") is also useful for priming the master cylinder a bit after it or the line has been removed for some reason. Doing all this does involve some extra mucking around. Whether it's any benefit is up to you. Talk about annoying! Actually, I have a problem with this land closure if it closes off lands to mountain bikes. Bicycles cause less erosion than horses, and are very quiet and don't leave shit all over the trails. I also have a problem with large government making discussions without consulting the people that elected them, and considering the local effects that these closures might have. I had the Kawasaki. It put the noisy buffeting directly at head height for me...I'm 5'10. I returned it and now ride around without any shield at all....and am very happy. In an extensive previous thread on this subject, seemed like some people were happy with the shield, others were not. Seemed to be a matter of your tolerance to having your head buffeted vs having your chest protected, or if you were tall enough in the torso to get your head out of the buffet zone. I expect to have my muffler welded back together this week, maybe tomorrow. I took some pictures of the modified innards before I gave the bike in to my friendly welderperson. I don't expect massive flow gains yet as I'll still be using the stock outlet, but some gain would be good as long as Tweety is set free to nest in someone elses muffler. My local dyno shop also has a flow bench, so if it doesn't cost too much I may be able to get a more scientific comparison between my stock and modified systems. The Dynojet kit is in now, and I'll start with the DJ140 main jet and the needle at #3, keeping the DJ150 in reserve for when I start getting serious on the airbox. So far, the DJ kit hasn't made any noticable difference on my stock bike, not that I expected it to.
