Ode to Arne's Big Gun Please, please, please Mrs. Larsen! I only ask to borrow your Big Gun. To cherish it a while and then, right back when the fun is done. I must have that Big'un. I promise, I promise, yes I swear he'll be crawling back in the morn'. Ask what polish I'll have him wear? Nothing so vulgar as ordinary porn. Nightstick and cuffs don my Big'un. Arc to follow Ajax into battle, 'til he fell upon his own sword. Fate struck two hearts a paddle, across the River Styx, my Lord. Here and now, I crave that Big'un. The host opened up the phone lines to get peoples opinions about the noises that bother them most and what should be done. He took an unscientific poll of callers and the results were: Number 1: Dogs barking irritated the majority of the people that called in. Number 2: Motorcycles were the second most annoying to people. Furthermore, a good number of people called and wished they would be banned! Some callers even went on to complain about bikes and how they hated them for cutting in and out of traffic. It was obvious to me that they were talking about a variety of bikes ("crotch rockets" zipping through traffic and Harleys/cruisers blatting down the street setting off car alarms) with aftermarket exhaust systems. But to the majority of those out there, they were just motorcycles that made a lot of noise. It was definitely not motorcycling's finest hours and my attempts to call in to defend met with constant busy signals. Just some food for thought before you strap on that SuperTrapp with 20 discs and an open endcap because you'll gain 2hp and sound "good" Gino Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Subscribe to Dual Sport News...write to dsneditor@softhome.net for info. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Oct 1999 23:41:12 EDT From: Smi5o@aol.com Subject: Fwd: (klr650) : Wobble - --part1_0.5747c00c.253fe558_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit In a message dated 10/19/99 6:25:13 PM Eastern Daylight Time, icariolo@MIT.EDU writes: Bogdan: << Talk of Phillips head screws got me thinking abouwwwt Canada. One thing that may help, is try to get to know the folks at the dealership. Don't be just a number, instead be "oh its Butthead again", or "its that KLR guy again", don't be "Hello sir what can I do for you?". If the folks at the dealership call you rude names and stare at your girlfriend, you know you have friends there, and they wont screw up your bike. Replace the stock front brake pads with Dunlop's or Gaffer Greens. Replace the cheesy stock plastic "bash plate" and "hand guards" with ones that will actually do some good, like a White Brothers or Moose bash plate and Maier or Acerbis hand guards. Also, most important, relocate the liscense plate holder higher before you do any off road riding, or else you risk losing the entire assembly on the first big bump. (It will hit the tire.)" I agree in general, but..... 1. Springs, I personally have not seen the need (might be my driving). 2. HELL YEAH! much better braking. 3. No hurry on the brake pads. Bash Plate: Agree 100%. Hand guards: Disagree. I like the guards. the handlebar is perfectly OK to take a fall. the others are expensive and I hear that they are not as good at shedding wind. and, ive seen a broken one after at fall in Moab!!!!!! License Plate holder: Yep, do it now and forget it....just 2 extra holes in the fender. A few other suggestions: Replace your fuse box with the breaker box....see www.dualsport.org. It is easy and from what I hear, sounds like there are a fair number of blown fuses. With the breaker box you only only shut down to reset it!!! No pulling your seat off in the rain at night! Get some side luggage guards. Tim Bernard makes nice ones. The advantages include more places to grip while picking up you bike (a frequent occurrence in my case:), great place to hook the cargo net, and best of all, no burned luggage from the muffler. The Dual Star center stand is considered a very good accessory. I just got mine and have not yet installed it. If you get the Moose Bash Plate, BEFORE you install it, cut off like 1.25 inches from the rear so that you can later install the Dual Star. (I got to take my off...not looking forward to it). The advantages of the stand are easy oiling of the chain and tire changes. That's my suggestions based on my experience and gleaning from this list. Good luck.
