Pros: well-made/durable, good armor (knee, hip, small of back), decent protection from elements with moderate water resistance. Good pockets. Cons: ventilation leaves much to be desired (nonexistant), softer material around bottom of legs catches on velcro of my boots and is slowly shredding. Overall, I am satisfied with them, esp. for $130. US. However, if it gets as hot as I imagine it does in Texas, they might not be the best choice because of the lack of venting (they're pretty heavy-duty). I havn't checked out the jacket. Anyway, after making one minor adjustment, the wobble is gone!! I softened up the rear suspension, and voila, wobble is gone!! Funny how something that seems to originate in the front end, is actually caused by something in the rear! Oh well, cruising in at 85 and 90mph (indicated) this morning was nice and smooth! Much more relaxing ride in today! Thanks to all who offered their advice and opinions! What a great list! Ok, back to your screws... I wasn't looking for any, but I get my rack hardware from a place near my home called Fuller Metric. They have virtually millions of fasteners in thousands of variations. I'm sure I could re-do my whole bike there. Now there's an idea. A complete stainless steel KLR fastner replacement kit... Well, I'm originally from Utah and in fact just did a tour of that area early this last September, so I'll try to name some places I really enjoy visiting (don't tell anybody I flew to Albq. and rented a car to do it.) 4-corners monument isn't particularly spectaculer, but definitly a unique location on the planet. Its nearby that things become spectacular. I'm just going to name off a bunch of places going clockwise around the corners from Farmington N.M. Chaco Canyon: ancient Anazasi ruins/Monument Valley, AZ/Mexican Hat and Twin Rocks/San Juan Goosenecks, spectacular canyon and river views/Valley of the Gods: incredible views and would be great for dualsporting, look for small pieces of my rental car's undercarriage here/Moki Dugway: one of the most fascinating and awe inspiring roads you will ever drive. It seems to disappear into the redrocks looking at it, but it actually switchbacks very steeply. Unparalled views of Monument Valley and Valley of the Gods/Natural Bridges Monument/Canyonlands, Needles to go into the canyons, Island in the sky to look from above/Moab: plenty of info from the KLR rallies to fill you in on this area (I originally went to riverraft and mtn. bike)/heading into CO from Monticello, Cortez is nice, then Mesa Verde Nat'l Park (spectacular Anazasi ruins on a huge plateau, there was a thriving indian culture of 5000 people in the 12th century here, indians from all over the 4-corners came to trade with them, you just have to dodge the RV's to visit/Durango was interesting in a sort of well-off, young, just finished college now I will work for retail in the mountains while driving the new car my parents bought me, sort of way (sorry about that)/from here it is just a hop and a skip to do the Alpine loop, one of the best dualsport areas around/Wild Rivers N.M. is beautiful with spectaculor views of the Rio Grande cutting into the earth. All of N.M. is fantastic. Somewhat of a run-on paragraph there, all these places can easily be found in guidebooks. Some good ones are Moon publications and Lonely Planet prints an excellent "Southwest" book (no Colorado though). My favorite is to get BLM info and leave the beaten track, this area is unlimited in this respect. Falcon Press has a most excellent book called "Back Country Byways" with Type l, ll, lll and Vl roads described in all of these states and more. Have a good time! That's pretty much how the motor trade is from my experience. I've been in and around the car trade for a long time and the better they know you the worse the insults get. I get on well with a Nissan wrecker over here and a greeting like "Hey Ted, how's that shitbox of yours going?" is just the tip of the linguistic iceberg. In various jobs I've reconditioned cylinder heads, delivered parts and even ran the console in a service station. The motor trade in Australia is the same everywhere. I doubt if it's much different in the US. I think it's just a motor trade tradition. (having fun yet?). facing two weeks waiting for another seal, i found one in stock in s. california (mid cities kawa). lo, the part shipped was a different number than the part given to me by my local dealer. i had even quizzed the local when i re-ordered the first time as to weather i'd been given the wrong seal. installed the new seal yest. with all working as expected. which raises a concern. i have yet to order a part from my local dealer and get the right part the first time. even went through the brake catalog with the parts manager and found two different listings for '95 KLR's. do other '95 model year owners have similar problems? is this a model change over glitch? great to be riding again. going to the high country for lunch today. todd A9 ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Subscribe to Dual Sport News...write to dsneditor@softhome.net for info. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Oct 1999 11:39:58 -0400 From: Stuart Heaslet Subject: Re: (klr650) Defending dealers (NKLR) At 11:47 PM 10/21/99 +1000, Ted Palmer wrote: >I wrote: >Something bugged me about this post so I went back over it again. >What I meant to say was: >"If the decent dealers prosper at the expense of the shonks and twits >that wither and die then we all win". > >As nobody raised any objections to my line in the original post, >I assume everyone took pity on my deraged state or couldn't understand >my accent :-) You give us an amazing amount of credit.
