I have replaced the forks springs and oil, adjusted the valves and balancer chain adjuster. Replaced the oil, coolant and repacked the swing arm bearings. I had a '85 Ford Ranger, a '76 XT 500, and before I grew up and became a man, I was toting around my XT in the back of my pickup to go riding. I pulled over in the hills west of Riverside, behind the backside of Lake Matthews, jumped in the back of my truck and sat on the bike. The theory was lean over to right, unhook right strap on handlebar, lean left, do the same. Unfortunately, I unhooked the right strap, and the tension from the left strap threw me out the side of the truck and smashed my left leg between the truck bed and the gas tank of my bike ; I was left hanging upside down and pinned, in a remote area. I kept thinking how funny it would be if some people found my skeleton a year later in this position. Roberto, No, I can't honestly say that I've noticed much performance change. The front wheel still prefers planet earth to the heavens... I'm loathe to enrich the jetting with the consequent mileage impairment, never mind opening the performance can of worms. I would have left the stock pipe on, but I just couldn't take the pathetic sound. Good Grief. At least now I've got the "sound" of power. I'm glad that KHI has been faithfully manufacturing the identical pitiful exhaust system for 14 years, now that they've perfected the formula. Nowhere in the OHV petition is any mention of the "Wise-Use" movement, it appears to be 100% recreational interests. A response without even minimal research ranks pretty high on the BS meter. ========= here's the petition verbatim ================ http://www.e-thepeople.com/petition.cfm?PETID=277027 We, the undersigned, are appealing to our government for help in keeping our national lands open for those whose recreation involves riding off-road vehicles. Our cause for concern involves the potential exclusion to our sport, while allowing bicycles, hunters, and hikers to take advantage of the beauty of our American Forests. We feel that we are being discriminated against without just cause. Common sense tells us that there must be allowances for all recreationists. The trails allocated now are relatively well maintained in the National lands. As part of a growing group of power sport riders , we would appreciate your support in maintaining our rights and preserving our public domain for this recreational sport. The stock springs are notoriously week. If you did put in the Progressives, how long is your spacer? Also, what kind of rubber are you rolling on? The KLR is one heavy beast in deep sand, believe me I know. I'm using a 50/50 knobbie, the IRC-GP-1, and it is inadequate in sand. For serious sand riding, I would suggest going with a DOT approved knobbie. You won't get much street mileage out of these, but its the only way to go in sand and mud. I'm thinking of trying the Continental TKC80 tires next, but people swear by the off road performance of Pirelli MT21's.
