It sounds like you have a good handle on the KLR's capabilities. It's not a motocrosser by any means, but it's a great bike if you, like me, enjoy cruising down a fire road to "see where it goes". Not a high adrenaline bike (most of the time, though others will differ), but it'll get you where you want to go. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Subscribe to Dual Sport News...write to dsneditor@softhome.net for info. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Nov 1999 12:59:30 -0600 From: "=?ISO-8859-1?Q?Carlos_Y._Gonz=E1lez?=" Subject: Re: (klr650) Gripster Impression - NKLR - ---------- > From: Carlos Y. How much do you guys load up your bikes? I'm a heavy guy (about 230) and ride hard on the pavement and I can't seem to get less than 8,0= 00 miles out of mine, closer to 9 is more like it. Both times I've changed my rears before they were legally worn out cuz I wanted that "fresh rubber" feeling. What do you consider worn out, when its flattening in the middle, or when its getting close to the wear indicator? If you ride a lot of dirt, then I suppose it would wear out faster though. =20 One thing I've noticed about the front gripsters (OK, maybe not the gripsters, but my bike itself) is that they cup pretty noticably around the same time that I need to change out the rear. Anybody else have this problem? =20 Carlos Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Subscribe to Dual Sport News...write to dsneditor@softhome.net for info. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Nov 1999 11:01:33 -0800 From: "Chuck MacKarness" Subject: (klr650) Sunday Jaunts Many of my "quick rides" encompass trips out through the agg lands I live near. The roads don't provide the canyon racer thrills, but do provide some other interesting aspects that only a bike like the KLR can really shine in. I can be riding along at 50-60 mph on what looks like a straight, narrow farm road, when a square turn can come from nowhere, maybe several in a 1/4 mile span, then come across a few miles of dirt, mud, gravel without notice, even some farmer bridges crossing irrigation canals, nice steep ascent with the road leaving your tires on the other side!. Yesterday, I was heading out to the new NASCAR track just north of my place, riding the roads described above, I found one of those gravel patches... early morning, fog hanging so heavy I had to don the rain gear, geese in the fields, awesome. The KLR is a fine bike, a really fine bike. ************************************************* Rev. Chuck :^)>+ '99 KLR650 Thousands of smiles and barely broke in... If you are really cluey, you could market this as a kit to convert a KLR to a BMW. My current rear Gripster has almost no tread left at about 7k miles. I'm sure it's because I routinely travel at 80-90 mph. Bogdan > WOW!!! How much do you guys load up your bikes?
