Elden values the greater travel afforded the less massive stock spring. The 1/4" spacer length is to comp for the well known sag. Unfortunately, until this month (November), this was true. However, with the release of Melissa (there are already TWO versions of Mellissa - along with the new Prilissa just released) earlier this month, you CAN now get a virus by just reading an e-mail, even though you don't open the attachement! > Here are two simple rules that, if followed, will protect you from > any e-mailed virus: Based on the foregoing, I believe that the two rules contained in the original message are not necessarily true any more, but nontheless, good BASIC guidance. > You should also be aware that both Microsoft Excel and Microsoft > Word have a built-in macro checker that will alert you to the > existence of a macro in a file that you open as long as you do not > disable this function. That is, if you have installed the patch, if you have not disabled the function, if you ... and so on and so forth. Those of you that have Word 97 either as a stand alone product or as part of the Office 97 suite, have you kept up with all the Microsoft updates? If not, how can you tell you are protected? Microsoft has released more ten updates to the various Office programs since late 1998! While not all pertain to viruses, many do. > The next time you get one of these hoaxes, instead of forwarding > it, please reply to it with this article. Rather than pass along another article on viruses, which there seems to be a lot of going around, why not check: 1. Do you have anti-virus software installed AND CONFIGURED CORRECTLY? 2. If yes, have you kept up with the anti-virus definition updates? I know that Symantec (makers of Norton AntiVirus) issues updates every Friday. McAfee (makers of VirusScan) issues updates on an irregular basis, i.e., whenever they determine there is a need to update - although this is normally every week or at least every two weeks). 3. Are you a subscriber to any of the anti-virus e-mail subscription services? McAfee has one - not sure if Symantec does. Because of the changing nature of viruses, I just wanted to let the list know what's happening since I believe the original message, while containing good information, contained some misinformation and I wanted to set the record straight. Officially it is every 6K mi. Those who do their own maintenance such as meself realize that even the 6k mi is too often. I go 12K. Last I went 18K mi and have only had a few valves .0005 out of spec. Funny I left the '83 GL650 for Connie. :+) Ya, the Concours best value similar the the KLR in it's category. >Which brings me to the KLR. Well after the initial 500 mi valve adjust and the next planned maint check there should be little change afterwards if what I have heard is correct. Me being new to the KLR that is. If your guys are as enthusiastic about >the KLR as the Concours people are about their rides, then I'm in good >company. Thanks! And if you can have both, WELL! I deserve it. Yep this list and it's members/participants is as good to the owner of the machine as the Concours list is. The Concours list needs an archive tho.
