I am going to Baja this Christmas,,, I bought MX Ins. - from a Company in California - and they advised me that all I have to have is valid registration from Canada and plate for my bike, which I do - plus MX Ins. which I do now - and they advised me to get a Visa at the checkpoint 21 miles south of Encanada which is FREE... So what are these charges Richard is talking about ??? Thanks, Brian. These are actually deposits you must make with a credit card (Visa or Master Card - when I went in a year ago, they didn't accept Discover). The deposit is made to Banjercito, the bank of the Mexican Military, which has branches open 24 hours a day near all border checkpoints. The deposit is returned in cash (assuming you still have your receipt) by Banjercito when you go through the 21km checkpoint on your way north. You do not have to exit through the same checkpoint that you came in through. This deposit is good for a 6 month period. In addition there is a non-refundable tourist-visa fee of $15/person. > > Visit the KLR650 archives at > http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 > Subscribe to Dual Sport News...write to dsneditor@softhome.net > for info.
