I'm new here and will be buying a new KLR as soon as the Gold Wing sells. Anyone interested in a nice 98 Aspencade? I had a KLR600 way back when and loved it ... it's time to get another one. One question tho, where in the world did the kickstarter go??? I tend to ride year 'round and with the 600 I had, after using electric jackets and chaps, the battery would always be too low to use the button. Is there an aftermarket kit or does Kawaski sell kicks as an option? If so, what kind of price? Looking forward to some rides and maybe meeting some of you fine folks next summer. I know about the "no KLR" thing in the subject but wanted the first to get to everyone! BTW ... If I stand on the pegs .... does that lower the center of gravity? JUST KIDDING! "Its handles extremely well. It is extremely reliable, and it proved to be the best choice for this application," The diesel conversion has been on the HDT drawing board since 1984.... My 1999 was $4200 plus tax and license. I've heard of others paying as little as $4000. But you won't. Because Californians pay more. It's the way God wants it. I think the brake caliper is just painted but with a paint that has a catalyst so that it hardens from a chemical reaction, not just "drying" like paint from a rattle can. It is probably also cured in an oven to expedite the process. Paint of this nature gets very hard.   Have enjoyed reading the list over the last few months, this is my first post.  What is the list's experience with current prices on 2000 KLR.  I got the dealer price sheet from cyclebuy.com added 5% profit, taxes, tags etc and came up with $4800 out the door.  I went to my local dealer here in the San Francisco bay area and he refused, said nothing under $5500 would do.  Anyone else buy a new one lately?  I would be interested to know what you paid out the door.  I'm willing to go $5000, but anything above that would seem to be an extreme profit margin if the numbers I am using are right.  Thanks.

The local dealer (not even the one I bought the bike from) replaced it once under warranty, but I guess it doesn't bother me much anymore. Now I slide the bags forward on a long trip (anything over 5 miles at 75 mph, actually) if I want to avoid melting stuff. I've also lit up a rainsuit inside the right bag, but it got extinguished before it melted anything else. Moving the bags forward makes all the difference, though.
