Replace the light with the plate mount. Hack the bottom of the fender off using the bottom of the plate mount as a guide to get a nice straight cut. Remount fender liner with plate installed. This puts the plate unter the fender, and deletes the light. If you wanted to keep the light to meet local laws, it could be mounted over the plate and mount using the same holes (and a little longer bolts). Here in Mississippi, a tag must be "affixed" to the registered vehicle. Been through several MHP road blocks (and a few traffic stops!) and all's well. Also, NO adhesive will fix a broken tab on a radiator shroud. None. My fix is using a small piece of scrap sheet metal bent into an "L" with holes on each end. One hole is to mount to the radiator guard, and the other to mount the shroud. Now, I can use the outside bolt to remove the shroud and not have to wrestle with trying to get my fingers behind thew %#@! thing to hold the little bilts any more. Gotta' go...time for a ride! It was easy here in new jersey to get on TV and tell the people that they are going to ban assault weapons, of course the people wound get behind it, It sounded good, and it won votes, and the media loved it. But the bottom line in New jersey was crimes committed with assault weapons was less than 5%. and alot of law abiding citizens would become felons if they didn't comply. sound familliar? doesen't it sound great that the government cares about the wilderness? sure does! the press will love it, the non outdoor-city people will love it, what do they care if the "handfull of country folk" can't ride their dirtbikes, they are dangerous anyway! people will get elected over it, and we will all lose our rights over it.--neil Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Subscribe to Dual Sport News...write to dsneditor@softhome.net for info. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Dec 1999 11:48:54 -0800 From: "Robert Morgan" Subject: Re: (klr650) (NKLR) Comments on Comments Dude, your comments are as timely and valid as anyone else's. I have been posting to this list since the first couple of weeks of its inception. I have probably stirred up more static on this list than anyone else. Its great entertainment. I love a good rhubarb. Debate is, afterall, one of the fundamental steps in the learning process. Most of us here are passionate about motorcycles. All of us here are computer literate (to one degree or another) which indicates a modicum of intelligence and education. So demographically speaking we, as a collective, are from a rather narrow slice of the pie. Even so we are as different as the diversity of geography, religion, education, politics, and hormones could conceivably make us. And yet, somehow, we maintain a collective consciousness in spite of it all. This list has some hot buttons. Land issues, oil, guns, gun oil, synthetic oil, oil level, politics, oil, BMW motorcycles, motorcycle oil, BMW motorcycle oel, SEX, massage oil, handguards, to name but a few....did I mention multi national vertically integrated petrochemical politics ? Some of our more talented Listers have managed to include all of these topics in one post. Bravo! Bravo I say. We're a lovable bunch really, and sometimes we talk about motorcycling. It's too bad if we come off like bozos to newcomers or outsiders sometimes but we are afterall a select crowd. If anyone just stays tuned long enough, the channel always changes. Usually somebody yells Neener Neener before things get real ugly. So feel free to jump in anytime, I think the channel is about to change. I probably should contribute more to the helpful conversations, but time comes in short supply. Thanks to all of those who have helped me with my own bike (and sorry to hear some have left the list). Luckily, not reading too often has kept me out of all the arguments about conservation and off-road riding. I do have an opinion (I live in a earth friendly, organic farm containing, natural and beautiful conservation community, and still love my KLR!) Anyway, I thought I would let you know, if you have not heard all ready: THE KLR650, CONVERTED TO DIESEL, HAS BEEN SELECTED BY OUR US ARMED FORCES AS THE OFF-ROAD BIKE OF CHOICE! I have searched the files and found a lot of really useful information for someone who is new to the KLR and Dual Sport in general. I am also very appreciative of the "digest" format which has cut down on the massive amount of individual pieces of email. The only fear I have is that the list will get too far afield into causes and NKLR agendas. I have very passionate views in these same areas, but expressing them on this list would not be very helpful, I'm afraid. Please keep up the great dialogs on issues concerning the KLR 650. I'm learning more here than I possibly could anywhere else. Motorcycles are not a significant player, but more of a 'whipping boy' in some social circles. Concern for the earth is NOT hypocritical simply because practiced by a motorcyclist. That's a myopic view and motorcyclists don't need to further it. Group A: Asteriod hits earth Group B: Nuclear war Group C: Pollution, greenhouse gases Group D: ocean depletion, forest depletion etc. .....at the far other end of the spectrum is trivia Group X: KLRs, kayaks and diverse forms of recreation, plastic Barbie Corvettes etc.... Discussing "saving the earth" concerning Group A, B, C is one thing. Those who rag on Group X have lost sight of the goal, and are succumbing to a basic human urge to attack others. To use "concern for the earth" as an excuse for other social intolerances is a textbook example of "hypocritical".
