How ever the chain didn't fit it very well, loose side to side. Don't remember the size of the chain it was too wide for both sprockets. Thanks in advance for any intelligent replies Doing my valves for the first time. I have no manual. I have measured the clearances and all are tight. Not surprising, I didn't get the idea that the dealer did the job he claimed. But they don't seem to mind taking the money. Do I need to remove the cam caps, or just loosen, to get all four shims out?. Does the left side, with the oil line tube, need to come up as a whole piece? And, is it necessary to take off the cam chain guard on top, it looks awfully hard to get the bolts out of, without losing one down the motor. It would be nice to avoid that, I think. I got my KLR650 back for the dealer with fresh valves, Gripsters, chain and other bits and rode it over to Steve's place to swap for his 800 Interceptor. The KLR felt great after its freshing up and the Gripster seem like the best choice for the commuting and weekend fun. The 800 is an awesome machine. My wife and I have been shopping for a Viffer for the past two weeks and had the opportunity to ride 2 92' one 96' and now the 99' and the differences are definitely noticeable. Steve's bike has be de-snorked and make a beautiful gurgle when rolling on the throttle. Saturday night I went to sleep early in anticipation of the Sunday morning ride. The roads where a little wet and the peace occiffers were in force on their R1100rts. I didn't worry about the black and whites much cus I was a just taking it easy and getting comfortable with the extra pounds the 800 packs vs. the bicycle feeling KLR. So the roads were a bit with in places on the first segment of the ride down to Stinson Beach so I rode even more gingerly then normal. The second leg was nice and dry and I finally go to open her up a bit, and oh what a feeling. This thing picks up where the KLR leaves off. I don't know if the stretching of my cheeks was from the G's pulled during acceleration or the big friggin smile, and where did the drool come from, ah but we wont talk about that ;) I have never ridden a "real" sportbike, guess my old 750 supersport Honda was a little dated. The bike was definitely confidence inspiring, not to sound like a cliche, but after convincing myself that the tires weren't going to let go and realizing that I was riding on of the finest machines ever between my legs, I was able to enjoy threading this silken dream around the asphalt serpentine. There was a tad bit of wrist pain (countersteering an extra 100lbs or so), and the leg room was a little tight, but not uncomfortable, otherwise the 800 was whispering "do me long time." Got about 150 miles with two bars left on the digital fuel gauge and an estimated 38mpg over the course of this blissful day. It was great trolling around on the backroads in 4th or 5th gear not having to grab more gears to get the adrenaline flowing again. We will continue to shop of a 94-97 viffer, in the $5-$7k range, but finally riding an 800 has been an enlightening experience, not to mention the cream in my jeans hehe ;) ~Nanda Holz Walnut Creek CA Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Support Dual Sport News... dsneditor@softhome.net To subscribe/unsubscribe send message to majordomo@lists.xmission.com leave subject blank.
