Hey all,,, We made it back from Baja, and what a trip.... I recommend it to all,,, worth every minute,,, and with 40+kg of luggage plus me, the KLR was the machine to conquer it.... Online pics should be available soon,,, Fortunately both Vik and I had over 3000 km of virtually perfect KLR performance,, other than the K&N filter choking itself on all that fine desert sand.... and my sagging chain (my fault).... One concern now that I am back home however, is that now every time I start the bike up from cold at an outside temp around 5'-9'C (40'F - above freezing), at sea level, no engine mods different from before the trip, the bike will only run with the choke at 100% 'on' for no less than 8 minutes - the engine reaches well above normal operating temp. If I even touch the throttle it dies instantly anytime during that first 8 minutes. If I even consider turning down the choke even 1%, it also dies. But once the initial ?? warm up ?? happens it runs just fine at idle and running down the road at any speed. During that first 8 minutes there is no abnormal choking or stuttering, it's very odd - I've never had this problem before, I rarely had to warm it ever. I've filled up with 94 octane, cleaned fuel filter, cleaned the air filter thoroughly, and spark plug, nothing made a difference. Anyone out there experience the same problem and found a fix ??? Any help would be much appreciated... hasta luego, Brian '98 A12, 22.8km Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Support Dual Sport News... dsneditor@softhome.net To subscribe/unsubscribe send message to majordomo@lists.xmission.com leave subject blank. It hurts like heck on the stock seat. I got a gell pad that straps on over the stock seat, 15,000 and still using it. The stock seat is too soft and after a few hundred miles you are sitting on the plastic seat pan. There is not enough Motrin in the world to fix the pain. I go about 400-500 and wimp out for the day with the pad. You don't have to shell out the big money for a Tiger or the likes, and you still have the sportyness, but the upright riding position. I've seen used ones from $2400 to $3600 They are fast, ride on a rail, and have long travel suspension, nothing like a Triumph or GS, but then you still have your KLR. How long a trip did you take, and what was it like? Until recently, the only mods to my 600B1 were a Gearsack rack and bag, Gearsack saddlebags and a platinum spark plug (and occasionally a 16T front sprocket). My longest stint on the road has been about 16 hours from Sydney to Noosa, cruising on the legal open road speed limit of 100kmh. I _was_ walking a bit funny at the end of that leg of the trip, but I wasn't entirely crippled by the stock seat.
