You want the kind for inflating auto tires not air boats etc.with a schrader valve. No need for fancy lights, siren, road hazard strobe, basketball needle, etc. bullshit. You can even purchase one that has a built in psi gauge. To gut the compressor carefully strip all the plastic and non essential parts off of it Duct tape can hold everything together.Instead of the cigarette lighter plug, connect two small battery jumper type clamps. One goes to the hot side of your battery post the other is negative ground to your bike frame. Voila instant air. The small compressor has a tendency to get hot if run for a long period of time. Check it periodically, give it a break if you think it's getting too hot. This setup is quite capable of inflating to 100 lbs psi given ample time. I read the concept of the gutted compressor was born, when some irate biker threw the unit on the ground breaking it. Lo and behold after packing it back up,found it lighter and more manageable.Of course real posers opt for all the above options when changing a tire in the field. I find the siren and road hazard strobe to most hip.Maybe a bear pepper spray can could be added as a option.Any other suggestions? Black and Decker is listening!! If you put an inline fuse in the wire you can > put it where ever it is convenient. If you have to run a wire to wherever > you put the fuse block, it is just extra wiring back to the socket. Not necessarily any difference here... Your power lead is going to have to go back to the power source right? So if your fuse block is located in the same areatory (kind of like area and territory... only different), whether the wire runs back to the battery or the fuse block - the bottom line is the same wire is "running" nes pas? Using this line of thinking, it would be better to have that fuse block up behind the fairing somewhere, as only ONE long run would have to go back from it to the battery... The accessories would wire to the block with short wires. And since we're on the topic, for all you people out there who actually know something about electronics (unlike myself who just "works it out"), will 12 guage be sufficient to run as my main power from the battery to the fuse block? I believe this is heavier than any of the other wiring on the rest of the bike. > I would > not do anything that reduces the internal volume of the air box, it is too > small anyway and you will incure hesitation problems as a result. Agreed. I won't do this. I had the exact same idea last year while staring at that vacant spot on my way back from Moab for some 30 hours last year... How many miles can you get after needing to switch to reserve? I was riding out by MT Ranier on a wonderful sunny day today before work as I do the 2nd shift 3PM-11:30PM thing and hit reserve at 230 miles. I went past the next station like an idiot. When you see gas buy it! At 252 it started to sputter and stopped after another mile after my frantic weaving trying to get the fuel in the front pockets of the tank to the left side and in the carb. BTW the Concours is the same, it has the lower left and right front of the tank that does not drain to the carb easily, about a half gal. That is why I didn't need to walk as I stopped and leaned it way over to the left and was able to go anothe 1/2 mile to the next station, been there before. I thought that 24 miles was much less than I expected on reserve. BTW I was doing 70-80 mph. Got the rad crash bars and the hi way pegs from Happy-Trails today. Boy that Tim is fast. Two days after the order they show up! Need to order a rear tire still. The stocker sure wears fast. Gonna try the Kenda 270.
