I'm in a debate with my wife as whether to ride the Kaw-Thumper to the get together or through it in the back of the truck and drive up. My side of the debate is that half of the adventure of going to Moab is getting there. Her side is that she is afraid that I will get there and spill the bike on one of the trail rides and not be able to fix it for the ride home. To that I told her that I will be in the middle of the greatest pool of knowledge and resource for fixing a KLR in the world. Any way I also have to chose new tires before I go, and if I ride up there, I will be using Avon Gripsters for the road trip. If I trailer or load it in the back of the truck, I will a tire with more dirt orientation. I'm looking at about a 1400 mile trip each way (according to map quest) and any input would help thank Tim Royer (98 KLR KAw-Thump, the back road bomber) ______________________________ Last year people rode in from further, and trailered in from less... so the choice is your's... For anyone who's sitting on the fence, it's a very easy job to do. I used my dremel to cut the spacers down and then used a file bit to level my cut. Tomorrow is supposed to go up to zero 'C so I may just be able to get it out for a quick ride. Thanks again! No one should ride in Moab without a bash plate. Maybe it comes down to how much time you have. My guess is that you can make the trip faster by trailering. Anyone coming with you? I don't know how a trailer rig would make it any faster, I cruise the KLR ab 80 or 85 and pass virtually all sorts of four-wheeled rigs, particularly up mountain grades or in any kind of turns.......myself, I am planiing on riding to the Moab deal in June, from Northern CA.....any one wish to hook up along the way? Of course, it is a little early to be making these arrangemesnts, but it does make winter more tolerable (not so bad here today, that's for sure, I went on a brewery ride with some pals). On the average I'm thinking a 700 mile trip on a KLR will be a two day run for most folks. Whereas with a cage and trailer you just put it on cruise on the slab and bang you're there in 13 hours....it is a great bike but a Wing it is not... I was impressed with their product. The finish is beautifully polished aluminum. I also liked how they use a stainless steel wool fabric to protect the fiberglass packing. I was told they were just beginning production on the KLR pipe and it'd be a few weeks before they'd ship. I took this to mean they hadn't previously made them but I now realize maybe they were just out of stock? The "show" price was $261 delivered. Tom Monroe said he'd write the sale up to take advantage of the special price but didn't need my VISA now. They would call when they were ready, confirm my order, and take my cc# then. My "tweety bird" is just starting so I ordered it. I've not noticed Two Brothers mentioned here. Has anyone had experience with their product? Anyway I'll post my observations once I get it on.
