Then i went over to cow mountain ohv area for my first ever off-roading on a motorcycle. I have years of experience riding and racing mountain bikes, so i know a few basics about steering, but obviously it's way different with a motor. much faster uphill, much slower down, and 9" of suspension means you can ride over plenty of stuff that would be very challenging on a bicycle. of course, you can't pick it up and walk the dangerous sections. tho i got in a little over my head once or twice (unable to turn around when the trail started to get sketchy), i finally wised up and stayed on the trails marked "easy", and fairly close to the main road since i was alone (tho there were tons of other riders up there). i had a moment or two of tension when the i hit a slippery spot on a downhill and both wheels broke loose, and the rear end started to come around, but i stayed up. finally, i celebrated my impending first loan payment on the bike (i'm mailing it today) by falling over sideways into ankle-deep mud. as i grunted and groaned to lift the bike back up (on a very slippery surface, which is why it fell in the first place), i had opportunity to rethink the wisdom of topping off the gas just before heading into the dirt. after that i just toodled out the back side of cow mountain, forded the creek to lakeport (on clear lake), then took hwy 175 back to hopland and down the freeway home. hwy 175 is just about all the way sweet. at 30-40 mph you're constantly leaned over hard, the pavement is perfect, the turns are all slightly banked, and it's closed to trailers and stuff. it almost seemed unfair to combine such cool on and off-roading into the same ride. when i got home, i carefully erased all traces of my foolish tip-over (mirror, bar and brushguard, as well as pegs and back of swingarm dipped into the mud). with any luck i'll learn to actually ride by summer and meet y'all in moab (i'm putting my scoot and some mountain bikes in the back of the pickup tho). woo-hoo! - -mark weaver Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Support Dual Sport News... dsneditor@softhome.net To subscribe/unsubscribe send message to majordomo@lists.xmission.com leave subject blank. However, there are many computer savvy folks on the list and I'm out of options. I'm unable to make any changes to the original text except for snipping when I reply to e-mails on the list or reply to anyone else. I reply to a variety of people in a variety of countries with a variety of computers. On the list or when I'm writing to friends it's merely annoying to the recipients; when I write to my students or colleagues it's a professional embarrassment. For example a student sends me a letter with a number of questions. The logical way to answer is to break up the text and answer the questions after they're asked. Mr. T and many others routinely reply to list posts in this manner. When I do this, the text gets scrambled, lines are indented in alternately different ways and bold face words randomly appear. I'm also unable to control spacing. I've asked our computer staff to remedy this but they say nothing can be done. I'm inclosing their post below. They say I'm set up to automatically indent but my posts don't go out that way, that's why I try to manually indent. In fact Verle and Walter have advised me to do this to make my posts more readable but I'm unable to do so. Any advice would be appreciated; remember I'm part of a large college network. Bogdan Bogdan, Karen and I have talked about this problem in great length. One thing we noticed is when you reply to an email it is already setup to indent. So when you indent it two more times, you are actually taking an 80 character screen view and cutting it down, that is why it is chopping up the paragraph. Secondly, we need to know what type of email the others are using to view your messages. The reason for this, is our system may be having trouble communicating with the theirs. If they are using an internet provider such as yahoo or hotmail you may need to open a free account with them. That way you all are viewing the emails properly. At this time there is nothing more we can do. Terri Terri Robinson Helpdesk Manager Information Technology Services The Colorado College 14 E. The cruzando will be much easier + you can take 11 to 180 to 666 to 191 into Moab, much more pleasant than Interstate 10 & 25.
