I'm partial to Hear-O's sold at most Walgreens and other places. A tapered plug that fits those of us with small ear canals better and remain comfortable for long periods of time. I remember using a pair for almost 9 hours without removing them. I use earplugs almost anytime I get on a motorcycle and bicycle(especially when riding into a headwind) anymore. I've also done some rides with my wife (we weigh about what you do), but not with much additional luggage. i find the bike fits all my needs extraordinarily well (except for the need to look really super cool). if it turns out that my wife and i want to do more 2-up touring, i'll probably eventually get a larger bike as well, but for weekend rides and short camping trips and stuff, the klr seems to be plenty big enough to scoot us around and still leave enough power to pass and stuff. coming from a sport bike background, you may be able to detect deficiencies in the road handling that i can't, but i have alot of fun on twisty pavement. It's a tad heavy for real technical enduro trails, but for most reasonable dirt stuff it works awesome. I get around 240-250 miles before i switch to reserve, so what's that, about 400 kilohectares, or barometers, or whatever you guys measure distance in :} i looked (briefly) at the f650, but with more weight, less suspension travel and drastically higher cost, i had a hard time justifying it, even tho it does look a little cooler. - -mark weaver - -----Original Message----- From: owner-klr650-digest@lists.xmission.com [mailto:owner-klr650-digest@lists.xmission.com]On Behalf Of Vaughn Cox Sent: Saturday, February 05, 2000 2:55 PM To: KLR List Subject: (klr650) intro I have been subscribed to this email list for a few days now and thought perhaps I should introduce myself. I am Vaughn and live at North Brisbane, Queensland Australia. Do I own a KLR? No, not yet. I have been riding sports bikes but wish to migrate to adventure/touring styled bikes and have been struggling with 'which bike should I buy" syndrome. I was hoping that a few of you guys and gals could enlighten me with a little feedback. Most of my riding will be weekend fire trail sort of stuff, a quick fang through the local twisties (can KLR's fang?) with a planned trip to the desert in June this year. No commuting, just recreational riding. I would need about a 350klm fuel range to get me safely between fuel stops to the Strzelcki desert for the trip in June so would an aftermarket tank be required? My wife will also like to go for the odd ride as well. So the ability to carry a pillion is necessary, as far as our combined weight for a weekend getaway I tip the scales at 75kg and my wife is 55kgs. Would the KLR be a suitable mount? I have been looking at the Funduro F650, Yamaha Tenere XTZ660, Dominator NX650 and only recently the KLR. I can afford to purchase a new KLR (I have never owner a new bike) but the others would have to be second hand. I get the impression that if week-end fire trail riding is going to be the primary use than an KLR would be more suitable? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. I camped and mountain biked for a weekend in the south end (sinkyone wilderness). from where i live (sonoma county), i'd probably go up hwy 1 and 15 miles or so before leggett (and hwy 101) turn onto Usal road, which is an unmarked dirt road. You can follow that all the way up through Sinkyone wilderness. I don't know much about the rest of the lost coast, but i'll sure try to find out soon. if any other norcal types want to make a weekend of it, i'd be up for it. - -mark weaver Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Support Dual Sport News... dsneditor@softhome.net To subscribe/unsubscribe send message to majordomo@lists.xmission.com leave subject blank.
