(i may just get another givi box and mount them on the side then bungie a small duffel or something on top). 2. any reason to prefer one set of racks over another? i notice tim whatshisname makes SU racks and NW racks, but I can't for the life of me figure out why I should prefer one over the other. Anyone else know? with any luck, she'll get tired of being squished and just get her own bike so we can do bigger trips, but for now..... - -mark weaver Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Support Dual Sport News... dsneditor@softhome.net To subscribe/unsubscribe send message to majordomo@lists.xmission.com leave subject blank. A few months ago Verle and Walter suggested I indent my posts. Acting on their advice I discovered that the way my messages looked to me often bore little resemblance to the way they arrived; it didn't matter who I sent them to. First of all I was supposed to automatically indent but that wasn't happening. When I tried to do this manually or for that matter make other changes like break up a text, a scramble would be the inevitable consequence. I'm part of a college system; we have techs whose job it is to take care of problems like this. For months they ignored my requests for help. I finally pestered them into looking into it. The result was an e-mail stating my problem was unsolvable and that they were washing their hands of it. Enter the heroes of the list to the rescue. After I sent a post begging for help, Vik, Verle, Walter, Sarah, Gary, Arne and others wrote me, postulating solutions and above all underlining that the problem could be solved. I resolved to find a mentor and with him act on their advice It just so happened that the boss-man of the techs was making the rounds of the departments asking how his crew was doing. Our secretaries, aware of my problem and smarting from their own run-ins with the techs, insisted I show him the letter in which they politely told me to f*$%^k off. I however, was facing a dilemma. We all have mothers and some of us have mothers with strong personalities. To my mother the lowest form of human debris was a snitch. She pounded into us that no matter what, we never inform on people to their superiors or anyone in power. She'd come home from work indignant that some low life had actually talked to the section head about someone. Now coming from Poland and having lived under the Nazis and Communists, my mother can be understood for holding those beliefs. This is the U.S. but until last week I had never informed on anyone in all my life. Like my mother, I would instead confront the person myself and scream at them; if it were a man a physical threat was implicit. Times change, places change. Here in Academia people would rather be ratted on then yelled at. Severa times I'd been reported to the Dean for taking matters into my own hands instead of going through "proper" channels. Still, when I handed the supervisor the letter, I was shaking inside; it didn't feel right. The result: Yesterday the same tech that blew me off before, all smiles, came to my office and worked at my computer for over an hour. We even honored Listmeister Arne with a post as part of our experiments. Part of the solution was easy; by removing me from Word, as my e-mail editor, random bold face words stopped appearing. The rest of the fix was not elegant. I go through 5 steps in edit and format and click into Courier. This allows me to manually indent and otherwise control my e-mail. Not great but hell of a lot better than before. Thanks again to the listoids that helped. I'm not sure I like all that I've learned from this experience but you guys keep me from losing all faith in those of the human persuasion.
