It's really an A10 or '96 model that was manufactured in '95. Elden Carl pointed out that '95 and '96 were transition years. Some '95s have the new style clutch. The easy way to determine which you have is to compare your clutch release lever (at the engine case) to a later model. There's no positioning bolt below it on the newer design. Elden's experience with exploding clutches leads him to recommend upgrading, but there are plenty of folks on this list with the old clutch who haven't had any problems. Some '96 models have the new style tranny. Two bolts hold the countershaft sprocket on the old style tranny, while the new one has one large nut holding the sprocket on. The new style was beefed up, but Elden says he's never had an older tranny fail on him. Besides adding weight, the new style makes swapping sprockets harder to do while on the trail. I'm in the process of getting my '89 back on the road and I could use a bit of help. I removed the drive chain by grinding off a link, and want to reinstall it using a masterlink. The problem is, no one around here can locate a masterlink for an EK 520 0-ring chain. The bike has about 8k miles on it and the chain and sprockets seem to be in pretty good shape. I bought the bike second hand so I don't know if the EK chain is factory. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
