It's all the wheel bearings, suspension pivots, and o-ring chain that can be damaged by super-corrosive soaps injected by the 2500psi pressurewasher. That corrosive soap can inject into your spoke nipples, locking them solid. A hot engine, plunged tank-deep into a cold river while running is a more dangerous combination of events, and I've done that many, many times, and the bike lasted OK (for a racebike). You have nothing to worry about (heatwise) especially when not running. The cooling capacity of the water that comes out of the nozzle is just a "spit" compared to a river. Just keep that sprayer nozzle away from any bearings or pivots. If you shoot the radiator be careful to shoot it straight-on. Hydraulic conversion is out since my wife repeatedly reminds me of > how lucky I am to still be alive after that unconsulted purchase. We won't > head in that direction eh? Buy a rubber ball and squeeze it for 30 min. each evening (with your left hand). The KLR clutch does not pull that hard but may exercise some new muscles. (The rubber ball-squeeze worked for my wife when she bought her first off-pavement motorcycle.) I`ve done three oil analysis tests on the Mobil 1 15W50 and 5W50 and the highest concentration of metals ( out of 21 tested for) was zinc, phosphorous, and molybdenum. I also regularly deal with a Mobil petro. engineer who is the one who recommended I do the tests, to show that he was being straight forward with me when I questioned them on how much phosphorous and zinc was still retained in the SJ Mobil 1. Alan at Baja Designs got the same numbers as I did, and with a different analysis company. I`ve also got three other reports from three other institutions showing the same thing, and one of them is SAE. So you need to call that tech back and tell him to get that comic book out of his face and get his act together. Tell him he`s got company engineers faxing oil content documents to researchers, that seem to make him out as an airhead or a liar. That`s why I won`t talk to any company rep or " customer service" people on an 800 number when I`m getting my data. I got the Raptor after my first low speed get off. Was pulling out of a car wash, rear MT70 squared like butter and did a little 15 mph hide-side into a nice soft stretch of pavemenet. Got up. Looked at my bike. No flames. Looked at me. Thanked god for my 5.99 Walgreen special pigskin yard gloves. Looked at bike. Took off helmet and thanked the maker. Looked at bike. It was then that I noticed I had stopped traffic. Looked at watch. Looked at bike. Yeup, right on time. Make this look cool. Said screw it, got the lucky little bitch up w/o so much as a dent but had the stock clutch snapped to the nub. Muttering I jammed the shifter down-down-up and pushed it to the side. Soon after I installed the Raptor shorty which I will say did not improve on the stock but held on par, but it does allow room for the big ass nasty aluminum bark busters from Maeir with the cats-butt ugly black shanks of plastic which are by far the best investment on the bike. They really hold the weight of the beast in the dirt, hard pack and pavement. I had previously trashed the Acerbis, though while looking sexy as a euro-trash waif poster girl, they just couldnt handle the load of a deadfalling half full gas tank. Lost like 5 mirrors before I figured that out. Anyway, to cut this ramble short, I recommend the Raptors for sturdiness, but I dont know if they will improve your ability, there.....it's official. And as a bonus, those stupid plastic shanks really provide another aero-surface....in a nut. They bust-ass helping with wheelies if you angle them right. >>>>>> and a huge increase in "wife gonna kill me" potential. If you get her first...then she can't get you. At 170 lbs. you shouldn't need any help around the White Rim on a KLR650 with lowering links, but it does depend on tire size, etc. I guess this is a good time to post a link to my latest findings: http://www.gj.net/~whimsy/links.htm Verle Nelson (whimsy@gj.net) '97 R1100R '99 KLR650 Cedaredge, CO USA Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Support Dual Sport News... dsneditor@softhome.net To subscribe/unsubscribe send message to majordomo@lists.xmission.com leave subject blank.
