I have been looking at the AlpineStar Road Tech GTX - - only in catalogues and I can't tell what there durability will be like in the real world. Are the 'Stage' more of an off road boot ? Do you know where I can see a picture/price on the Net ? I want a boot that will hold up well off-road and still be functional on the Hwy. (touring bike, without looking like a big multi-coloured monster off-road boot), water proof, and comfortable. Date: 12-Sep-1998 13:16:08 From: Subject: (klr650) Boots: Alpine Stage GTX Howdy, I am a proud owner of AlpineStar's Stage GTX boot. I think it gets the "GTX "by virtue of its Goretex treatment. I strongly recommend the boot for a couple o' reasons: 1) Goretex for this boot really works. 2) zips up the back with a velcro tab covering the back which 3) keeps water (and cold!) from penetrating through laces or buckles, and 4) allows it to have an unbroken front kevlar plate for max protection ( not too critical if you have the smaller foot pegs). 5) It doesn't have much of a heel so can move feet freely on pegs. Now for some subjective stuff... I put in two generic liquid gel inserts into each boot for the anti vibe factor. And with these, I find a good degree of comfort. Where before, I would peel my old boots off first thing after a ride, I am in danger of wearing out the soles for tramping around in 'em. They really got put to the test at the last alligator dual-sport ride during bike week. It was that freaky real cold morning, remember? I rode in to Daytona that morning (on an XT225) from Gainesville and only mild cool discomfort with 1 pair of sox. It was in the low 50s I think. During that day the boots got a decent thrashing and were immersed (too) many times. When I got back to Gainesvile I just sprayed them with simple green, hosed them off and used this "athletic leather" shoe cleaner stuff. Good as new. Little less shiney though... I have sinse bought Thor off-road boots for my real dual-sport rides, but when I'm cuising on my Katoom or my Virago, the Stages are my podiatal protection. Kurt, If you have the same one I do (GPS 45) then just slide the top of the GPS unit under the bent top part of the mount, flip the bottom portion over top of the bottom of the GPS and tighten the thumbscrew, attach the zip tie - and that's it. I can't speak about the GPSIII mount, but the GPS45 mount does not need additional Velcro or bending to ensure a tight fit. Which mount and receiver do you have? Sometimes when the connector is pushed onto the bulb base, one or more of the blades are pushed out of the back of the connector a little, which may reduce contact. Also, try moving each of the three wires instead of the tapping. Let us know. (definitely needing to get more in touch with my feminine side) Once again, my memory loses some beats lately but... maybe I've found this on an american Harley's magazine... I remember someone making a temporary repair to fork seals as follows: "lift the boots and/or dust caps off, clean the area and pour some transmission or power-steering fluid over the seals (I believe that also Diesel will do). The contact with those fluids will make the seals swell-up and, hopefully, they'll stop leaking for a while" Remember, it was a "Harley's thing!" Those Harleys must use some very sensitive seals. Mister_T ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Mar 1999 14:52:02 -0700 From: Bogdan Swider Subject: RE: (klr650) I dare you... We put $1000 down ( you can go with no down) for 60 months. Anytime during this period you can sell the bike, pay it off, sell it back to BMW, or continue till the end and pay a balloon, or refinance the balloon amount. You pick the amount of your monthly payment, down to $45, but remember the lower you go, the larger the balloon will be. Her payments are $100 a month.
