Inside the tank is the best place for an effective filter because the sloshing gas keeps it clear (to a point). But for that you must rely on your manufacturer. If the KLR doesn't have a good filter inside the tank then I guess you'd have to add an inline. If I found grit in my floatbowl I might add one too. I often remove the bowl sediment trap just for looksee and I never find anything. Besides, there's have to be a lot in there to make a difference. jPossible that frequent wheelies and open throttles slurp any sediment right on thru? Sedimentation in the floatbowl has been a non-problem for me, (here in the clean ole USA). Thank the lord for small miracles, big wheelies, and non-problems. Rust particles, combined with water, can conglomerate into a problem in the floatbowl though. An inline filter DOES prevent dirt from entering while the gas tank is removed....provided the filter remains attached to the carb, but it's not difficult to be careful. You can run a spit onto the ground to clear the line before reinstalling. Mexico might be different...... My girlfriend thinks it's a mild case of neurosis, but I think I hear a ticking noise from the engine. I did the valve job at around 6000 miles and after rechecking, every thing lined up. I've never owned a motorcycle before, so maybe all large bores make slight ticking noises. After the valve job I did notice some metal shaving in the oil about the same as when the bike was new. I haven't seen any more after an oil change or two later (when I get nervous about anything mechanical I have a tendency to change the oil alot). one last thing, after the rejetting (#160 dyno-kit), the super trap, the new filter, and opening the air box, the bike never likes to idle in the same place twice. It usually idles a little low when it's still a little cold in the morning (1100-1200 rpm) and normal when warm(1300-1400), then sometimes higher(1400-1550)when hot. That is the normal trend, but it doesn't alway follow that pattern. I'm thinking it might have to do with one of those little screws on the carb. No, I didn't end up with any extras when I was finished, but the ones you use to adjust is were i think I have the problem. There is two right? I turned the one that dyno jet (the fuel mix)told me to, but isn't there one I'm suppose to turn(the air mix)when I opened the air bow, or put in a better filter? I haven't messed with it in months so I can't really remember if there was two screws. Sorry this was so long.
