However the seat base, although not as wide as the old xr 600 is wider than all the new wonder 4 strokes. The seat can be improved but since I don't plan on buying one I can't give any sound advice on this. Other than no factory street legal lighting ( I won't own another after market lighting kit) the other thing that bothers me is a lack of good fuel economy. Bob Bell who preps racing XR's for Honda reports 22/23 mpg at pre-run speeds. He feels mid 30's are realistic for moderately aggressive trail riders who have installed the power-up kit from Honda. I can't believe that Honda won't produce a street legal version of this dirt bike with a C.V. carburetor giving better mileage among other things. (The new issue of DSN has more comments about this) An example of how much more efficiently C.V. carbs meter fuel can be seen in the dr350 dirt and street. The C. V. carb in the street variant is appx. 12 mpg better than the dirt (43 mpg vs. 55 mpg.). Bob Bell is stoked about the potential of this piece of equipment. It has better everything except the seat. By the way overheating problems can occur as the bike comes from the factory, due to EPA intake and exhaust restrictions. I wouldn't ride one without the power-up carb. flange and muffler core with rejetting to #5 notch at the bottom of the needle (rich) and 175 main jet. Have you found any drawbacks to having a slotted CS sprocket cover( such as dirt and debris getting jammed up in there).
