On the street I run at the pressures stamped on the sidewall, give or take a coupla' pounds, and never had any problems, however on the dirt I run real low pressures and maybe I'm running too low. My current rear is an IRC GP-1 and the side wall reads 33 lbs cold, off-road I run about 8-12 pounds depending on how muddy it is. The front is the OEM Dunlop K750(?), I forget the street pressure, but the off-road pressure is usually the same. Aside from my front being just about gone, the traction I get at these pressures is phenomenal. The diff, is night and day, and to be honest sometimes the pressure is maybe 6-8 lbs. Now my guage my be off a bit, but am I doing unnessessary damage at these pressures, such as sidewalls? Thanks much, NY Pete All messages to klr650 must be 'plain text' only...no attachments... The pressure on the sidewall is the maximum pressure at which the tire can carry the greatest load. It is not the same as the recommended tire pressure of the manufacture. Unless you are going to haul a load of bricks or have just robbed Fort Knox a reduced pressure will make the bike ride smoother on the road and probably make your tire last a little longer. and to be honest >sometimes the pressure is maybe 6-8 lbs. >Now my guage my be off a bit, but am I doing unnessessary damage at these >pressures, such as sidewalls? I wouldn't worry about the sidewalls so much but running this low pressure is asking for a pinched tube in your near future especially if you ride around Moab. I run 15psi front and rear off road and 22 psi on/off road. Fred >Thanks much, NY Pete > > All messages to klr650 must be 'plain text' only...no attachments... Yeah, there are way too many people, cars etc. but what can you expect from a state with the best combo of weather, surfing, skiing, off-roading, etc in the country, AND tons of high-paid jobs... I'd love to keep everyone out, but there's that 'free country' crap gettin' in my way from putting up big fences (particularly on the north border to keep you moss-heads out :) As for lane-splitting, I only do it at speeds below 75 mph. I love it. It costs too much but I have a very expensive head! My wife has a bike now and is learning to ride (we both signed up for the msf course thanks to all for the reccomendations I'll keep you posted). Any way HER head is even more expensive than mine, what with the hair and all. I originally purchased mine from Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse. I know this helmet has been discontinued (along with most things I ever thought were cool and groovy), however MAW still advertises it. I called them and they assured me they had several in stock in the size I needed. I said ship it. After two weeks and 5 phone calls I have found out....This helmet is discontinued and they don't have any and that is why my order has not been shipped, regardless of the several they said they had. I don't want to rant about their ineptitude or poor customer service, I just won't do business with them. I have read numerous posts from Listers that have recently purchased this helmet. Does anyone know where I might find one? Does anyone know anything about the Bieffe 3 sport helmet or another similar helmet suitable for on/off road riding. Thanks in advance Morgan, baffled at how some companies stay in business! All messages to klr650 must be 'plain text' only...no attachments... Fellow listers... Here's the situation: - - Bike is currently in neutral and elevated on center stand. - - Axle has been run through rear rim, chain tensioners and axle nut are still loose. - - Chain shows plenty of slack (remember, the bike is elevated). My problem? The wheel will not turn freely. I have determined the friction point to be somewhere in the rear brake mechanism. What's up? And what's the fix? Do I need to drop the wheel and try it again? Or do I need to do something with the rear brake? I'm wondering if it might have something to do with the two allen bolts that secure it to the bike, as in loosening and re-tightening... Please help me, because I'm planning on taking another crack at it tomorrow. Muchas gracias... Juan Villarreal (go U-Conn! I've used the hell out of PJ-1, black and blue, and while its a good lube, I had to scrub the chain and sprockets every 500 or so miles. But then again, I do a lot of desert riding. So far, the Maxim chain wax has kept my chain nice and clean, and seems to lube really well. When dry, it reminds me of the packing grease that new weapons come in. I've found that the chain wax works really well for lubing cables too, except that it might take a while to get the lube all the way down the sheath. I really don't even think much about it, but all I have to do is just crack the throttle and tug a little and the Moose will come right up. Then you milk the throttle to keep it up, unless you wanna change gears. I don't think it's just my bike though, I think I could ride a wheelie on any KLR. My back tire is suffering severely from this wheelie thing though, I wouldn't recommend it! "CAN YOU SAY NEW GRIPSTERS SOON"? Even riding a short high wheelie takes alotta practice. I just did it a lot as a kid and teenager, so it's easy for me now even on sportbikes. There is another guy on this list who likes to ride multiple gear wheelies on his KLR; at least he used to be here. I think his code name is Chaos, or Kaos or something like that. He's the real wheelie guy; I just toy around with it. Anyway, I think any KLR has sufficient power and gearing to wheelie over little bumps and logs and stuff; that's fun too! Check this out everybody, A friend just asked me to get his KDX200 ready for the summer. Brought it over to leave in my garage for the whole summer also, cuz he doesn't have a garage. He rarely rides it (cuz it scares him), and wants me to ride it whenever I want after I get it ready; so it doesn't just sit all summer again. Cool. I've got a pure dirt bike to ride again. Hmmmmmmmm, can I still wheelie a 2-stroke? Soon we will see..... Bill Swindlle A12 "Moose" Montgomery, IL. All messages to klr650 must be 'plain text' only...no attachments...
