The wheelie (or "mono") challenged among us, myself included, may be able to learn something from a couple of videos by the British magazine "Fast Bikes", titled "How to Pull Wheelies & Influence People", parts 1 and 2. "Fast Bikes" is a sports bike mag that has published a few videos now which are full of good old-fashioned sports bike anarchy. Unfortunate for US-based listers, the vids only come out on PAL (Euro) video format, not the other "Never-The-Same-Color" variety. Maybe organize a few Eastcoasters for 12 days of exploration/camping. Let see now....according to my State Farm Ins. provided Rand McNally Atlas, the junctions of 191/128 is approximately 2216 miles from my driveway. 3 days hardride, allows 5 days of "research" and 4 days to get back home (1 day extra, just in case) to write "my findings". It may be a bit of "hardwork" but I think the benefits to my "constituancy" far outweighs any "stress or inconvinience" to me. ....I'll need fresh tires, spare sprockets and chain, chain lube, tire kit, 1st aid kit, 3 days clothes, sleeping bag, dome tent, ground cloth, tool kit, spare parts kit, electric vest (to ride at night), CD player and CD's, emergency combo flashlight and radio, camera and film, do a fresh valve check, fresh oil, take the KOA card, etc, etc, etc...... So...any of you other Eastcoasters interested, say mid-September? I'll have to start working up to 800 miles days on the KLAW as I usually take long trips on either the Goldwing (Florida every year, 2-up with a trailer, 24 hours to Orlando) or the Concours. But I think it can be done. Any adventurers out there? All the best, NY Pete - -----Original Message----- From: Fred Hink To: Kurt Simpson ; Jeff & Lisa Walker ; John B. They sell for btwn $45-50 (US). Less expensive alternative to the Aerostich, for say, daily commuting, extreme off road abuse, while preserving the others for big trip duty...? UFO sells a twin headlight fairing for "universal application" on DS/offroad bikes. Looks like a conventional enduro headlight/numberplate assembly but has the cool dual eye light setup, much like the KTM Adventure. Found it for about $50. Doesn't appear to fit the KLR but would look real good on, say, a 1999 Dr350SE....unless it were left STOCK (blasphemy). Some listers were discussing ways to avoid attempting to take off with your disk/wheel lock still on. Dennis Kirk has a "Remove Before Take Off" streamer made from dayglo material. Approx 18" long with grommet for lock. $4. Maybe beloved Fred has access to these parts... Its also possible that your wheel is not aligned perfectly in the swingarm and when you check your chain adjustment and tighten down your axle, you will be in proper alignment. frank ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Mar 1999 11:46:40 EST From: OlZorro@aol.com Subject: Re: (klr650) NKLR- Flint Hills, Kansas Snip/// your e-mail did bring back a lot of pleasant memories. I too spent several long Saturdays among the Flint Hills with a couple friends. ( Boy what fun that was! I too came to realize that Kansas is not the flat, boring state I always thought it was. Take care, Juan Villarreal Ok, so where you wanna start, Strong City? Past the feed lots? Mosey on down through Cottonwood Falls, the old courthouse and brick streets? (There's reputed to be a 4-calendar cafe there). Slip out of that town the back way and slide through Matfield Green, right after the elegant colonial house on the north end of town, the only house in town worth more than $12,000, and past the semi-general store on with the same mentally-retarded young man sitting on the same porch for over 20 years; the one who waved at you every time you looked at him? Then maybe the open two-laner with no traffic except for a pokey farmer who would never dream of causing you a problem? And lots of cows, verdant views, and old windy, up-and-downers? Maybe wishing El Dorado didn't come up so soon? Nah, I never think about those things, but my dreams, my dreams, oh to be in Kansas...on that road.
