I was thinking of ordering the Kawa one, >but I read that it may have a poor mounting system? not true, the mounting system works fine. It is a bargain at the price (I keep thinking I'm going to buy a couple of spares and store them), but it is but one part of a three-part system that is tried, tested and proven. Add the DualStar Co-pilot (see the web-page) and Aerostich tank panniers. All three work together and give you tremendous options. You use the panniers for getting heavy stuff low and forward, the co-pilot for keys, cell phones, sunglasses, lip balm, maps, in plastic waterproof bags, change, wallet. The Tank Bag for bike cover, vest, another map, cap, and leave enough room for a water bottle (off-road I use a camelbak)...lots and lots of choices. Need to leave the bike unattended? Co-Pilot off in 30 seconds, Tank Bag another 15 seconds, and the panniers another 30 seconds. Triple the time to put them back on. > - Boots. I need a proper pair. Reminds me of the time my buddy, Rodger, talked me into racing a 1/4 mile with him, on a stretch of pavement out near our favorite riding site. He on his CR 500 (which I later bought from him), me on my XL600R. No contest, right? He promised me a five second head start though, so I figured I had a chance. So I ripped off the line, WFO through each gear, and had the finish line in sight, when he blew by me on his back wheel. Impressed the hell out of me, that's why I bought the bike. I remember some magazine put the Interceptor 1000 up against the CR 500 with street tires, and the CR blew the Interceptors away. Is there such a thing as a > dual sport boot? Should I go with a road sport/touring boot? ===== I'll be interested to see what the replies are to this....but this is my half of an excuse to say how happy I am with the pair of Carolina work boots I just got. I know there's lots of good boots made, and the Grizzlies I bought for riding should be among them. I've never been a work boot kind of guy but I wanted to get something for good foot protection and these fit the bill. Handsome, excellent craftsmanship, thick leather and comfortable. Cost was $148. These boots don't substitute a layered or otherwise built-up construction to achieve thickness, it's the real thing. Solid. The (actual) 7.5" high shaft should give all the protection one could want. These boots are built to last a lifetime. Another thing is the rugged oil-resistant sole, which does *not* use a heavy lug (Vibram) type tread, good for me 'cause otherwise they'd make me trip over stuff too much. They use the sophisticated Pillowcushion System multilayered shock absorption system to provide custom comfort, podiatric support and protection from problems caused by bacteria and moisture. These are really great boots from the Carolina Shoe Company of North Carolina. eric ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 May 1999 23:04:59 -0700 From: "e. rhoads" Subject: Re: (klr650) Tire size question > Can someone please explain the tire sizes? Like, how the > measurements are taken, what they mean, the specifics ========= I'm not going to be able to do that, but this is an excuse for me to show off something I learned from the Pirelli tire folks. As far as I'm aware, this is in terms of street use so probably won't make much difference as far as what you want to do. Putting on too wide a tire, for a given rim size, tends to make the contact patch smaller. As far as putting on a smaller tire (not what you were asking about)....this flattens the tread, which leads to running out of tread on peg-scraping turns. Just thought I'd mention this for whoever might be interested. Pardon me for not answering your question, Jeff. eric ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 May 1999 23:19:52 -0700 From: Christopher J Beasley Subject: Re: (klr650) exhausting Gino wrote: > I have on on my KLR and had one on my Bandit 600 (which I sold). Do you guess it flows any better than stock, any less than a 'trapp? I sure wish the KLR supertrapp was stainless like so many of their other models. b ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 May 1999 23:21:44 -0700 From: Christopher J Beasley Subject: Re: (klr650) connectors?
