I have set up a LIST called "sedualsport" (South East Dual Sport Riders) Our objectives are very simple: The LIST is simply a fast and convenient way for riders in the South East USA to let others know of planned or "spur of the moment" rides (dual sport or other). This will allow us the ability to join in rides and even have a few group activities once the LIST matures. This LIST will not have a lot of traffic (unless those on it want to send email) it is mainly a means of communicating rides and activities in this region of the country. If you live in the south east and want to be included on the LIST then do the following: go to: http://www.onelist.com/subscribe/sedualsport Follow instructions for "registureing" on "Onelist" and signing onto the LIST - very easy actually! If you have trouble signing on then email me direct at whaycoc@ibm.net and I will sign you up - you will receive email instructions from the LIST after I sign you on - you will have to confirm you want to be on the LIST. Plans are very basic at this time but we are considering a group meeting in the North Georgia mountains for August - date to be determined. WEIRD! > Isn't this the opposite of your not wanting to > use your "high-beam during > the day theory" only different? > > I think this AND the high-beam are both good. Arne- Not really. Note that I used the words "prominent" and "visible," as opposed to "blinding." Red light is much less intrusive to the eyes than white light (especially in a night environment) . This is why I don't see the basis for the earlier complaint from the gentleman who said they could be a hazard on group rides. Especially as it pertains to daytime rides. And as for night rides... I mean, is a pair of these lights really more difficult to deal with than the white headlights of an oncoming car? In my humble opinion, no. With that having been said, I would still be more than happy to ride at the back of a group, if it improved someone's comfort level. Secondly, we are much more vulnerable to people running into us from our 6 o'clock position than from the 9, 12, or 3 o'clock positions. I'm speaking strictly in terms of ability to see and avoid. Why? The latter three positions are in our primary and natural fields of view, whereas a check to the aft area is something that requires a deliberate effort. And let's face it, you can look in the mirrors or turn your head around all day long, but your level of situational awareness will never come close to what it is for the other areas. And I don't need to be shooting a high beam ahead of me, because I'm already scanning with my eyeballs. I'm of the mind that the onus is on ME to see THEM rather than the other way around. My two cents. Ride, live, prosper, repeat... Juan Villarreal, '97 KLR "The Happy Hooligan" _____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? If you go offroad you need the bash plate IMHO. How long is your commute? The longer the ride the more possibility of leaking the noxious stuff into the tire between the tube. Alcohol seems to remove the sealer well enough to stick a patch to it and make a really good bond. Remove your valve and clean it really well (inside the stem too)to ensure the valve seats well after reassembly ( I don't suspect I have to tell you this but thought I'd include it nevertheless).
