This morning when I left my house to go to work I realized something wasn't right on my bike. Then it hit me, my headlight wasn't working upon further examination I found that the headlight, tailight and dash lights weren't working. I still had brakes lights and turn signals. So I parked it in the garage and took the Trooper in instead. I figure it must be a fuse so I will check that first. Has anyone else had this same problem? My bike only has 1300 miles on it and I haven't done any creek crossings in a couple weeks. Trip out to Moab and back was great! I had the small reservoir installed and got about 1,800 miles per reservoir fillup - using one drip per minute. The Scottoiler did indeed keep my chain lubricated. But, it also kept the rest of my bikes rear area lubricated - oil film all over the rear area to include the rim and swing arm plus the center stand and side stand. I thought I might be using too much oil flow but I had it turned down to almost no flow and still oil film! It could be that this situation is not the normal situation as one does not often run 4,600 miles in 12 days. Could it be that normal cleaning under normal riding conditions would counter this rear area messy stuff? I would like to hear from others on the LIST that are using the Scottoiler and get your impressions. Good luck. Chalz, A13 Hello everyone! I am new to the list, and the proud owner of a beautiful KLR650 A13, which is nearing the end of the 500 mile break-in period. I have a couple of questions:=20 1. How important is it to have the 500 mile service done? 2. What are the truly necessary checks and adjustments needed? 3. I am somewhat mechanically inclined, so could I do most of this myself? or should I take it back to the dealer? 4. The manual mentions adjusting the valves may be necessary. How do you know? How involved is this? I am hesitant about taking it to the dealer, mainly because the labor cost is outrageous! I would rather do it myself, partly to get to know my bike a little better, and mainly to save $$$!! However, I don't want to screw anything up on the bike either, or miss anything. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Wish I was there. The plan for next year being a week later is a plus; I'm making plans early so I can go. 2) Instead of going to MOAB, I rode the A2 in the 2-day, Williamson Honda/Suzuki 200 mile "Durty Dabbers" AMA dualsport. It was a great weekend. The second day was especially brutal. I put a grapefruit-sized dent in my MSR bash plate, lost one of the mounts for the bash plate, broke the filaments in my tail light bulb and in a turn signal, and rattled out the top two bolts that hold the luggage rack to the subframe. We even had to go 1/4 mile uphill in a flowing creek that was loaded with rocks the size of laser printers. Also, there were 5 KLR650s including mine and one '99 KTM LC4 with 300miles on it. About half of the 400+ bikes were DR350s. I have a couple of pix at http://www.personal.psu.edu/mjv2/dsride.html 3) Who here is using a DiD chain? I put one on in mid-March before I went to Florida. After 3,500 miles, I still haven't had to adjust it! It still looks, feels and sounds like a new chain. 4) Reminder for you northeasterners: the PaTRA (www.pamall.net/patra) Seven Mtns Dual Sport is this Sunday, June 13 just south of StateCollege, PA. Get info off the web site. You can register in person the morning of the event, but you might not get a free T-shirt. Hope to see you there!
