Every chrome header I have ever installed ( all 4 sets of them, 2 Doug Thorleys, 1 K bar S set, and the BG) on anything has gone blue / purple right by the head after an hour or two of use.I love the pipe.. that doesn't sound right, does it? I am very pleased with it so far. If you are going for a long ride, earplugs are a must. I repacked it once already, no problems. My spark arrestor core came with new packing. I know someone was complaining about ( aboot for you Canadians) taking apart the canister, but I thought it was easy with a little patience ( and Sam Adams ). Mounting is a breeze, I suggest using the middle exhaust support bracket, with a little massaging it fits over the new pipe and holds it perfectly. I never have owned an IDS, but I did own a standard OG Supertrapp on my old XT 500, and there is no comparison on the sound between the two. The old style 'Trapp sounds, well , hollow, the BG sounds, well, solid. That's the best I can offer for a comparison. CA Stu < - - - Owner of the Numero Uno Production KLR650 BG in the world. Big Gunner's out there, how do you like them so far? Any comments or complaints? Anyone repack the baffle yet? How was mounting? Noise comparison vs. a 'Trapp IDS would be nice, quiet and/or standard baffle Gun. TIA EJ To subscribe/unsubscribe send message to majordomo@lists.xmission.com leave subject blank. It is obnoxiosly loud with the racing core. I have the quiet core to put in but haven't done so yet. The noise level compared to the Trapp was best summed up in an analogy that Brian used... I paraphrase: There was this dog running around who had a bark louder than all the other dogs. He ran around and barked at everything until, intimidated, all the other dogs left - except one. The barking dog looked at the dog who had been sitting quietly in the corner. The barking dog, determined, cocked his head to one side and let out a string of loud barks designed to scare away the meanest of dogs. Slowly, the dog who had been quietly watching the goings-on, rose up on all fours. This dog was tall, and the barking dog found himself involuntarily taking half a step back. Then, after a long slow inhale, the quiet dog spoke... BARK! BARK! BARK!.... In a panic the barking dog ran away with his tail between his legs, never to be seen again. I'm looking forward to mine turning colour, as I think the chrome looks goofy. The fit was absolutely PERFECT. I haven't gotten mine yet, but the purchase decision was based on not wanting to hassle with the pipe after it was put on. I ordered it through Fred, it's the same price this way and moves money through Moab, and expect to get it in several weeks. Fred gave me some things to consider, like whether I should believe the acoustic claims of BG, but I thought I'd take a chance. They claim 96db with the silencer core. I'm looking to step into the shoes of being a proud owner of a KLR650... Ideally I'm looking for a late model,'96 or newer, low mileage bike with some cool upgrades, like suspension, exauhst, bags.. However any late Model KLR with low mileage would be great... I live In San Franciso, and would be willing to travel as far as the midwest for a good deal... Any leads would be greatly appreciated just drop me a line. I decided to buy a KLR 650 after reading a lot iof the webpages,/posts/magazine reviews about it. It sounds like a great bike. I come from the Honda Transalp school of dulasport riding, unfortunately my '89 Transalp is getting a little long in the tooth, and has taken too much abuse from me, and I dont have the time space or inclination to fix her up properly. So I decided its time to move on; however if anyone is interested in buying my Transalp and restoring her it would do my heart some good. Email me for more details. Well I guess I wasted enough bandwidth for now. I looked at the Motorport thingy that is basically armor held together with mesh in the shape of a shirt. It was _not_ comfortable and looked rather strange. I knew that if I bought it, it would sit in the back of the closet forever. I am always on the look out for something like this. If I get it, will let you know what I think of it. I have a big gun. The head pipe started to pit after about 3 weeks. I called and they said "we know they pit, send it in and we'll ceramic coat it. Works great!" I used some high temp black, but have not used it yet to see if it stays on. Compared to the piece of shit COBRA pipes I have blown up with this bike, the big gun is outstanding. Fit and finish are as good as an OEM item. I have modified my intake system for much greater air flow, and the big gun is like pouring a bucket of gasoline on a raging fire. As for noise, It lets you know it is running. When you hear it, no one will tease you about the badge on your pipe. Major balls. Much, much improved flow and power everywhere. I would strongly recommend the big gun. Todd A11 To subscribe/unsubscribe send message to majordomo@lists.xmission.com leave subject blank.
