That was supposed to be a pre-ride for the so cal get-together scheduled for 8-14 & 8-15, right? Anything ever come of that (aside from 2 bruised Cal Posse members)? I remember the weekend because it's my birthday, and I'm trying to figure out if I'm gonna blow off all my IRL friends for this list event, or if I'm once again gonna lurk out of a list gathering... Any details would be much appreciated. (And there's probably a couple of other socal lurkers who missed the initial announcements...) If my IRL friends insist on my presence that particular weekend, maybe people longing for a redo could come meet the following weekend at, say, the Rock Store or something, and we could just ride streets, or someone kind could show me some interesting (not very challenging) dirt roads around there, or we could just sit around and giggle at the harley riders whilst you guys tell me stories about the previous weekend :). The whole initiation sounds a bit much for me and my skill level. (I probably woulda seen the shale and turned around...) Gotta remember to get new shoes for Chie. She's wearing thin in the center and that's making turning that much more exciting as I suddenly get a whole bunch of tread on the sides... The best is ride the bike to where you're gonna launch off on the back road trails at. Ride the stuff. And come on back home when you reach the other side of the state. Makes it a 4 day trip then. I think the point is that if you are going to haul a dualsport bike to the dirt then it makes little sense to own a KLR. Why not just buy a dirt bike or a light weight dirt oriented dual sport bike? The main attraction of a KLR beyond low cost is its long distance highway manners - if you don't bother using that aspect of the bike than I'd say there are better bikes for the money.
