I'm not too sure a higher wind shield would held during interstate travel. I could do the same speeds off the interstate as on and notice a world of difference. I believe a larger windshield would cause more problems because it would seem to catch more turbulence. The biggest problem on the interstate is the bike's light weight (although I might be talking out of my ass 'cause I've never owned a bike before). My solution for dealing with the turbulence was just to hold on. After awhile I began to relax alittle and forgot to worry about trying to stay in the middle of the lane. Another thing that helped was trying to avoid traffic. Of course the best solution was to get off the interstate and enjoy myself instead of fearing for my life. Some funny things I did notice was following a semi too close puts you in this bubble where no wind blows on your radiator so you engine starts running real hot. Another is the incredible amount of heat generated on interstates. Not only could I feel the difference, but my bike ran much hotter. 2-cent MikeD>hating the big road called "INTERSTATE" To subscribe/unsubscribe send message to majordomo@lists.xmission.com leave subject blank. That "hotel" in the movie is actually the Timberline Ski Lodge on Mt. Hood, Oregon. I learned how to ski on Mt. Hood at the tender age of 3. It's not so spooky as in the movie when filled with a bunch of skiers and snowboarders. I totally agree about what you said. I have gone many places that I wouldn't have taken my 4x4, and have seen tons of game, including to pheasant roosters in a cock fight, and have chased jackrabbits and coyote (as if I ever had a chance of catching them.) Its not so much the ride for me on my KLR, as the ability to go places. If I really wanted to get into the off road "ride" again, I'd go out and by my dream KX500, or some monster enduro like the KTM. But I know that if I did, I'd probably end up out at the ORV track most of the time, and thus would miss out on some great places to explore. I've noticed that when you trailer or truck your MX'ers or enduros to a location, you kind of end up circling around the area where you parked, and not getting too far away, kind of like those damn seedoos that hang out by the dock all day screwing around, when there is a giant river out there. Oops, don't get me started there (again). Anyway, the point is that when you trailer, you kind of have this invisible anchor to one spot, but just riding the KLR I feel truly free. Go to cupboard or Wal/K Mart and obtain a small "burp ware" container that's just the right size and color for your KLR. Bolt it in place with four bolts, use rubber and metal washers (inside and out). Silicone seal the bolt holes. Wrap the scant handful of tools that you feel "you need" in a shop wrag, along with an extra taillight bulb. The lid to the "burper" goes on, and then, put a small bungee cord over the top of the lid and let that keep the lid from coming off. It's totally watertight, so your tools don't rust, even under water (I ride in Idaho). The "burper" is easy to get into, and it's sturdy, so it's hard to smash something in it by sitting on it. For those of you who still have the original toolkit, put a bungee across it. That will take the stress of momentum off of the bolts and put it on the bungee. This desert trick will also keep an original toolkit from breaking up and falling off (the boys in the Anza-Borrego know what I mean). Oh, and if your "burper" breaks or cracks, it's only 89 cents and two beers to replace it. The one I'm using now is six years old and I noticed this year that it has cracked. Must be time for a new one. What color goes good with blue and white? To subscribe/unsubscribe send message to majordomo@lists.xmission.com leave subject blank. Eric, Before you let the air out of your Slimed tube, you might give it a shot of air to clean out any slime that may be in the valve stem so it doesn't blow out all over you.
