In a comparison of two stock KLRs and one with the springs and hose upgrades, we all three agreed the springs were great and the other two of us ordered some, the ss hoses were not so great. They made a stiffer handled crummy brake instead of a soft handled crummy brake. Also I tried the Dunlopads with no noticeable effect. A couple of listers have noted that the DualStar centerstand doesn't get their wheel off the ground, as if they have received the centerstand for the lowered KLR. When I got my centerstand a year or so ago, for my new '98 KLR, it raised the bike enough to get a wheel off the ground. However, it no longer does, and hasn't for 6 months. My forks are not overpressured. The forks or the rear shock seem to have relaxed somehow--the centerstand certainly hasn't gotten any shorter. Others may be experiencing this phenomenon and attributing it to an incorrectly sized centerstand. Yeah, they seem way out of line. Back in early 97 I paid $2300 for a 91 with 3500 miles on it. I don't believe that was a particularly great deal either. More than a few listers have gotten new KLRs for around 4500 bucks. I'd say spring for the new one, unless you hate the color. But if you go used, go somewhere else, those prices almost seem insulting. My two cents, Carlos A5 26,400 mi (best $2,300 I've ever spent, really!) Dreas, I am not sure what happened to your bike, but I can tell you the difference in length between a standard and short DualStar stand is significant. I haven't measured it, but I wouldn't be surprised it was 2" or more. I am not a suspension guru, but I would have thought at rest with the tire off the ground a KLR (regardless of shock setting) would reach the max state of extension of the swingarm/shock. I am not sure how that get's longer without a mechanical defect occurring. However, the fact I can't figure it out doesn't say much.
