Jake says the 136 main jet may be a little too lean for his setup. All things being equal, he would be even leaner at your elevation. Below is Jake's summary from the DSNewsletter. If you haven't done so, order the back issues from Gino. They contain jewels you won't find anywhere else, even with web access. - -------- >>....mean altitude 5000ft. 5th gear running, speed ~ 55-65 mph. Throttle response is more linear, acceleration is better than stock, small amount of lean surge. First tank went onto reserve @ 240 miles (downhill): @ 253 miles, fill up took 4.28 gal. Yield was 59.1 MPG. Fascinating. I would recommend the 140 main jet to eliminate lean surge. Loaded trips now average 56-59 MPG, all wind conditions and grade. Jake Jakeman << - -------- From idle to around 1/4 throttle the pilot screw will have the greatest effect on fuel flow. Around 1/3 to 3/4 throttle the needle's taper and the position of the e-clip will have the most control over fuel flow. Over 3/4 throttle the main jet starts to become the dominant player. I live at sea level with a DJ150, open exhaust and airbox. More available air/fuel in, less restriction out = more power. The downside is I've recorded 32-47mpg. Don't compare this to Jake's 56-59mpg. 55-65mph in El Lay...you're a sitting duck. My question is: "why?" After some rumoured problems in the 600-A1 tensioner, I thought the later KLR tensioners were sorted out. They shouldn't need any regular maintenance. Anyway, when refitting the tensioner, the plunger should be retracted back into the tensioner body, then allowed to take up camchain slack by itself _after_ the tensioner is firmly bolted back on the cylinder case. Does anyone have a "real" webpage, bought and paid for with an active server? If Michael isn't familiar with web stuff, I could Tom-Sawyer one of the college kids at work to do it. Speaking of webpages, I would really like to see some more contributions. We have all found wierd things that work for the KLR, or cheap places to buy stuff, or strange things we bought at a laundry mat that perform some marvelous function when applied to a motorcycle. You get your name on my webpage, and the added bonus of a dancing green guy! Arne, you are excluded from additional dancing green guys! ;) Do some of you folks have my homepage as your homepage? I've never had a problem with my 28k miles A9 until recently. I always run my bike in the 70/80/90 mph neighborhood. Lately, I get to a cruise speed of 80 and all of the sudden it seems as if you would've switched the run switch to the off position ..... I get off the gas and around 60 or so, the motor comes back to life. Any ideas besides kinked hoses to my problem ? *********************************************************** Steve in Tampa- You describe what sounds to me like valve float.
