They are about 1" wider than the stock ones, and with the added leverage, you can really throw the bike around with ease. They also dont have as much of a pull back, lets the rider sit a little more forward, which I like. I filled mine with urethane window sealant like Mike from Dual Star recommends and my hands don't get numb quite as fast as with the stockers. IMHO. Seems to me that the need for wide bars > is at low speeds when you have to muscle the bike thru obstacles. In my experience, I would say that the wide bars are probably most useful for countersteering, especially at the higher speeds where the bike tends to resist direction changes and needs more leverage than narrow bars. This way I can just yank and push on the bars for quick steering from the comfort of my seat, instead of leaning off the bike or using body english. Narrow bars wouldn't give me the leverage that makes it easy to flick my KLR from a hard right lean to a hard left lean (or vice versa) quickly and predictably. > Is it not true that the twisty oriented road bikes have low > and narrow bars? Yeah, but its probably because these bikes are primarily designed for high speeds, and need to tuck the rider in low and close to the bike for aerodynamics. These bike manage to turn quickly not necessarily because of the bar design, but rather because of frame design aspects such as a steep rake or trail (or both, I don't know which is the most important one for flickability). So individuals do not step on a nail and think they don't have to get another shot and that they are covered like a 5-10 year warranty. Hey Istvan, I have the dimensions for the E50 Maxia (L23"xW16.8"xD11.4"), E460 (L22.3"xW16.7"xD12.3"), E360 (L22.3"xW16.7"xD11"), E45 (L22"xW16.3"D12"), and E36 (L22"xW16.3"xD10.8") only in the catalog Givi sent me. The E28, E34, and E38 are the custom cases. The E28NP and E34NP are the custom cases with leather covering. The custom cases are primarily designed with the street and cruiser bikes in mind, this style comes in 3 different depths, depending on how large a case you require. E38 will hold 1 full-faced helmet. Accessories for the custom cases are: 1) Specific backrest and top case rack. 2) E28 also available with custom logo. Fred could hook you up with any of these products quick, give him a call at (435) 259-7356. Tim Benard at (208) 377-8770 is currently sending me a set of E36 along with his Northwest Rack which he had actually tested to work well with Givi's cases. I currently have the E45 on the back of my y2k klr mounted to a E127 adapter. It's pretty huge but I'll probably interchange it with the E36 for small loads. I went with the E45 because they are capable of getting banged up without showing it. They're dust/waterproof. The width is equal to the width of my rear flashers. The locking system is fairly descent. For me, a lowered KLR works far better both off and on road. And I am a purist (self-styled, perhaps). I was riding 650cc displacement motorcycles on serious trails in the '60's and '70's. Check this: http://www.gj.net/~whimsy/bsa.htm After eighteen years of not riding at all, I was expecting progress. I bought the KLR because I like big singles, big fuel tanks and wanted a luggage rack. Here's my take: there are several reasons why the stock KLR isn't suited to the kind of big-rock trails we ride in Colorado's high Rocky Mountains. The engine has a strong mid-range but not an awful lot of low-end grunt. Knowing this, the engineers (or marketing people) fitted the KLR with a close-ratio transmission which makes it a blast in a twisty canyon road, either paved or gravel, but makes it difficult to ride in a boulder-strewn gully. And finally, several factors such as the big tank (which I like), the liquid cooling (which I kind of like), the dual overhead cam engine (which I guess I like though it does make valve adjustments difficult and doesn't seem to make any more power than 650's I rode thirty years ago), and the excessive height all conspire to make the center-of-gravity obscenely high. My stock KLR could not respond quickly to body-English. The KLR is built to look a certain way -- like it could cross the Sahara desert at 100 mph. Well, I have no immediate plans to ride from Paris to Dakar, even slowly. I never use nine inches of suspension travel. I don't even bottom out now after lowering the bike two inches. These past few days I've ridden two rocky, 4-wheel drive passes over Colorado's San Juan Mountains and I had no problems, even with stock gearing. I bought a 14 tooth counter shaft sprocket from Fred (who also sold me the lowering links), but I've yet to install it. As far as I'm concerned, lowering the KLR completely transformed it. It's not that I don't work the suspension; I just discovered my rear shock is leaking oil after only 2600 miles. Any good ideas on what I should replace it with? I will probably wait until I notice the difference when I ride but I'm sure a replacement is inevitable. My thanks to Gino Pokluda for his article on lowering links: http://www.geocities.com/~klrdsn/page83.html This list, and the Dual Sport News web site, (yes, I've subscribed to The Dual Sport News) has been, and is, my KLR technical education.
