Hey all: When do I *really* have to replace a tire? My stock Dunlop is getting pretty worn. The knobbies have just now reached the little ridge running around the center of the tire. I understand that prudence is best when it comes to anything related to a motorcycle---but how worn can the tread get before the tire becomes suicidal? I've got 3000 miles on the tire (admittedly I think I let the pressure run a little high this summer, not taking into account the expansion of the air while riding). Ride with a motorcycle legend.. Me! Oops, I mean Malcolm Smith. Just to let you folks know, there is an annual Dual Sport ride put on by Malcolm Smith Motorsports located here in lovely Riverside. It starts at Glen Helen Raceway, in Devore, runs up through the San Bernardino National Forest. Should be fun! This year it is Sunday Nov. 14th. I think it would be great to have all of the CA posse there to show a strong KLR650 presence, seeing how MS is a Yamaha,Suzuki,KTM ( seen them Y2K Dukes yet? ),Ducati dealership I think the group may need a KLR or two to give it some panache. Then yesterday it ran like it had a clogged air filter. So last night I took the door of the air box to discover that some intrepid field mice had built a nest in the air box over the weekend. There was plenty of junk and two dead mice in there. With the cooler nights here in rural New Mexico, this is pretty common. If you live in a rural area and your bike exhibits air starvation symptoms, check for mice. It should be in this week. The service guy that ordered it used the reasoning that if it didnt make the noise when you bought it it shouldn't now. Sounds like you need to get the dealer to put a little more pressure on Kawasaki to warranty the pipe. I think many listers have gotten them replaced under warranty. By the way my bike started whistling at 2500 miles.
