Thanks in advance. This is tradition and I hate the traditions, but... anyway..., happy new year to everybody. Number 23 of the Spanish edition of Future Music magazine (page 69) contains the results of the remix competition of Wolfgang Fluer's "Mosquito". BTW, the Guiding Ray's logo that appears in this article with the added name of "Antenna" is a similar drawing to Kraftwerk's Antenna itself. In a letter apparently written by Fluer himself (and also signs by him), he makes an ingenious presentation to the remixes. One of the mixes is called "Trance-Europe-Midge mix", which Wolfgang says: "This creation reminds me my early years in Kraftwerk. On page 10 of the same magazine we are reported about a new film ("Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey") based on the Leon Theremin's life. A documental directed by Steve M. Martin, which will includes interviews with persons related or influenced by the instrument. A conversation with the compositor and inventor himself when he was 91 will be also included. The magazine states that KW were detractors of Roland MC-202 synthesizer (page 43). These days there are a commercial at Spanish TV where various DJs appears on a kind of computer generated images that has the same feel as "Musique Non Stop" video-clip. The commercial advertises a double CD entitled "Dance Sessions 2", the label is Max Music. I need to buy a copy of "A Tribute to Kraftwerk" by Marc et Claude. Can anyone of you recommend me a place on-line where I can do it? Thank you all in advance. The inserts feature white and red text on a blue background. On the back of the front insert is this: Es wird immer weiter gehn Musik als trager von ideen Inside the tray insert is the Kraftwerk traffic cone. Lassigue Bendthaus will released this year a CD called "Pop Artificielle" (KK Records) where he makes electro-techno-pop covers of Eighties bands, possibly there will be one of Kraftwerk. Gigolo Records published a 12" of a cover of "Showroom Dummies" by DMX Krew. There is also a cover of "The Model" played by Worldjet. Zyklus brought out a 12" "Tonimpulstest" (Gigolo) in the veins of Kraftwerk. One band where were Talla 2XLC, Robotiko Rejekto released a song called "Robotiko Rejekto" in which they make a kind of breath pretty close to "Tour de France". Camouflage released a cover version of "Kling Klang". And Ralf Doerper made "Ruckzuck-Duesseldorf #3". I think it's interesting to know that there is a record label called Metropolis. And another called Old Europa Cafe. Influenced by KW, I think it's extremely possible. No, airwaves is a very generic word. I doubt that you can copyright song titles. Also, you're dealing with the difference between trademarks (the name of a brand of gum in this case) and copyrights (songs, films, books, etc.). That said, maybe we could have a Wrigleys variety made with R&F as the new Doublemint Twins. Jeff _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Wow! This list is a bit tight or strict. Anyway, thanks to those who answered my Dentaku question. Actually, I own THE MIX CD. I almost never listen to it, however, because it is a bit disappointing, hence I didn't know the track listing. Also KW is not my # 1 act so this is another reason. No problem at all... However, if you want to have Dentaku on CD, you should better buy the Kraftwerk 'Tocata Electronica' (not sure of the spelling). You will get others interesting KW rarities & mixes and it will cost you less than the Japanese Computerworld CD. I wandered into my local favorite music shop, (Newbury Comics in Boston), and just happened to look in the Kraftwerk section since the Gas Huffer section dissapointed me, and it's earlier in the alphabet than M (for Mekons). Anyway, what should be looking up at me from the rest of the Radio-Activities and Electric Cafes? Nothing but RALF AND FLORIAN! I've been looking for this one for quite some time, and had been told that it was sometimes available in local retail shops, (rather than send away to AB-CD.com). Anyway, of course I bought it, and it is great. Registration is the process of claiming or renewing rights to use a word, logo or combination of both to cover a specific class or multiple classes of goods and/or services (these are broken down into 42 international classes). These registrations are published in the countries' respective intellectual property publications. TM ownership expires from time to time, so the owner of the trademark has to keep filing renewals, which, I mentioned, Kraftwerk did in July for the U.S. Hope that helps. The idea was to re-release all the Kraftwerk albums from 'Autobahn' onwards. From 'Radio-Activity' onwards, the releases were meant to be double CDs with the English and German versions on separate disks. I think promo CDs were released since three of the albums were reviewed in the New Musical Express. No record store seems to know anything about these CDs. According to the New Musical Express, the releases were meant to promote the new Kraftwerk album. The coloured vinyl remix 12inches released some years ago were on their part meant to promote the remastered CDs. I guess that would be impossible because all the albums from Autobahn to E.Caf have been released with different records labels Autobahn=Philips (I believe) Radio-activity / T.E.E. / Man-machine=Capitol Computerworld / E.Caf=EMI So unless one record compagny (or KW themself) have bought the rights to publish all albums, I wonder how it could be possible. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? When was the first time KW started a concert with the now famous line: "Meine Damen und Herren, Ladies and Gentlemen, heute Abend aus Deutschland, die Mensch-Maschine Krrraftwerrrk."? 2. There is a song from the time when Ralf was not a member of the band, which title almost always is spelled differently. Which spelling/name is correct? - Rückstoss Gondoliero - Truckstop Gondolero - Truckstop Gondelero - or perhaps a combination, or a 4th alternative? - and from where does the false title "Vor dem blauen Rock" come from? I had always been into electronic music, but I had never really gotten myself fully absorbed in it the way that I am now. I was more into hard rock and my mind set on becoming a drummer in a band that would be the "next Silverchair" (by the way, what ever happened to them ?). In the back of my mind, I always thought about what it would be like to do my own tech thing, but this was before good computers were cheap and Roland came out with their Groove Boxes. Anyways, after many failed attempts at trying to play with bands, I said, "Fuck it" and decided to take electro full-on. It's amazing how LFO's and blippity-bloops have had such an influence on my mindset. I was so absorbed with dreaming about being number one on the Billboard charts every week and having my videos played monstrously every day on MTV, that I really lost focus of the important thing; the MUSIC! I had to deal with too many bullshit egos with other musicians when ever I would rehearse, and then I realized, "What the hell; why am I going through all of crap just to play drums?;I should be my own composer and be in full control!" So now I've gone from Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Motley Crue, and Ozzy to Art of Noise, Kraftwerk, Yello, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, and Jean- Michel Jarre. I would like to thank all of these artists deeply from the bottom of my heart for really showing me what true musical individuality is all about; NO SET RULES, NO IMAGE CONSULTANTS, NO TEENY-BOPPER FANS, NO PRESSURE TO BE NUMBER ONE, AND NO COMPROMISING OF TRUE CREATIVITY!!!! I have hung up my guitar for good, and although I still play drums, it's not fully my first love anymore (mainly due to the fact that I'm still rusty because I can't practice, due to my asshole apartment managers!!!). To end this long story, all I can say is, when it said in the Bible, "Make A Joyful Noise Unto The Lord", surely what came to follow was the blessed event that became electronic music!!!!!!! Thanks for reading!!! Does anybody know which online shop carries it? I tried to order "Best of Kraftwerk" with a.o. David Toop is a musician, essayist, critic, columnist for The Wire, collaborator of Arena, Spin, Mojo, Billboard, The Face and The Independent. He wrote a book titled "Ocean of Sound - Aether Talk, Ambient Sound and Imaginary World" published by Serpent's Tail in 1995 and compiled 5 CD's with the same concept than the book. By the way, Afrika Bambaataa and The Soul Sonic Force are included in one of these CD's, Booming on Pluto: Electro for Droids (Virgin, 1997). On May it will appear his new book "Exotica. Fabricated Soundscapes in a Real World" accompanied of its respective sound sampler. In this interview he speak about his record "Screen Ceremonies" (1995): "It's a record dedicated to the computers. The art, the money, everything it moves in the same means: the grafic art uses the screen, and also the musician, the bank, the shopkeeper, the doctor..., is a unique industry. I was interested in combining this magical strenght of the music with the computer, in getting that magic and that atmosphere with the mouse. The title of "Screen Ceremonies" is an allegory of the secrets that contains the screens". "Ocean of Sound" is now translated to German, then there is possibility of translating to Italian, and maybe to French and Japanese. Toop wrote some articles about Kraftwerk at magazines like The Wire and he also wrote the text that can be read at the back cover of the reissue of the Computer World CD by Cleopatra Records. "A Tribute to Kraftwerk" by Marc et Claude has been included in "12000 Ohm" (Suck Me Plasma, 1998) double CD. It exists a band called Klangstabil that I think it can be influenced by Kraftwerk. "Straftat Gegen Das Lebe" is the title of their CD. The front cover of the compilation "Sushi 4004" (Bungalow, 1998) it shows a futuristic highway that reminds the cover of Autobahn album. The CD's cover of "Fore" (Domino, 1996) by Ganger represents a cyclist at the style of "Tour de France". His new album "Hammock Style" (Domino, 1998) has influences of krautrock and Kraftwerk. '80's? kinda sad really, waste of good synth's if you ask > me. wish they were more like KW. YMO albums tend to be very different from each other, but most of them don't sound like Kraftwerk. If you want something that sounds a tiny bit like Kraftwerk, you might check out their reunion album "Technodon", which sounds a bit like a mix of modern techno and kraftwerk with samples of William Burroughs. Personally, I don't like it as well as the 80's albums. An earlier album which also has a very machine-rhythm sound (although definitely NOT like modern techno) is "Technodelic". I didn't like this one that much either. Their first album, simply entitled "Yellow Magic Orchestra", seems to be mostly, if not all, covers of old-time popular tunes with synthesizers. That doesn't sound too inspiring, but actually it's one of my favorites from them. "Solid State Survivor" is mostly original songs, except for a very odd rendition of "Day Tripper"?! It includes their classic tune Rydeen, and I find it is very good in general. "Naughty Boys" is completely synthpop, very 80's sounding. It is very well done, and I like it alot, but if you don't want the 80's sound, stay away. I could go through the rest of their albums, but in general I find they all have something to recommend for me. YMO is very good because of their unique style... if they sounded just like Kraftwerk they would be Komputer and we would all hate them ;) (Well, some folks, anyway.) If you are looking for a newer, highly experimental sound, you might want to check out the works of ex-YMO member Ruichi Sakamoto, but beware. His stuff can be highly divergent, some very pop, some very techno, even film soundtracks. Strong, unique rhythms and interesting chord progressions typify his work. The other YMO members have also gone on to do other musical works, but I havn't had a chance to catch up with those yet. If you are looking for something which is more influenced by modern techno, but with traces of Kraftwerk and YMO (and a bit of disco), you might want to check out Denki Groove. They have a very dancable, comedic style. Each comes as a single disk, although the site refers to a 3 CD "set" the charge is for a single CD. What you DO notice, however, is that they have 2 versions of all 3 albums available. One on Capitol (the remastered w'original art work) and what I assume is a budget reissue, on what they call "Imprint" label, (which I'm assuming is Cleopatra??). I don't have what you'd call a high end system, so I can't tell you if the Capitol reissues sound better - the artwork seems a bit sharper and brighter.
