Hi, just a tiny bit of KW triumph for me. I was in Plato (cheap CD shop
in NL) in Groningen (way up north in NL, almost in Germany but very much
Dutch). Imagine my surprise as when I dragged my mate into the shops, I
heard Autobahn from The Mix! They played The Mix, really loud, in the
shop. I wonder why? Anyway, by the time it got to TEE (eek) we left, but
wow eh? KW get marketing for once...

Canadian label Suction records has recently released a double volume
compilation CD entitled "Snow Robots".
The label Satellite publishes the CD "Numbers" by duo Bell. It deals with an
homage to both electro-pop and the 80ies techno. Throughout its ten tracks
we find out all of a range of vintage electronic sounds, robotic rhythms,
vocoders and analogic melodies that immediately recall to the techno-pop
golden decade and the greatest godfathers Kraftwerk (who are even sampled).
Better Living Through Circuitry (2000) has just been released on DVD. It
includes an interview to Wolfgang Fluer and his biography.

Actually, I think you all look the same as me. You know- grey slacks, red
shirt, black tie, palid, fixed expression...
I have no idea what you all really look like, but if I were to render
characters based loosely on our dialogue.. any police
sketch artists out there? Great examples abound right under your

I found on ...

... a list of album/edit/remix and video.
There is the following DVD mentioned, containing a video-clip:
Die Roboter (Edit) - 04:17 - GER - Kling Klang - exhibition DVD
- concert backing track on DVD used in video exhibition
Because Klaus Zaepke is one of the editors of this KW-page,
perhaps he can tell us more about the exhibition, availibility of
the DVD and the video-clip.
Does anyone of you has this DVD and could make a copy of this
video track (on a CDR)? Let me know, perhaps we can make a deal.

Anyway, I'm off home to watch the video of today's stage and to see if

I suppose it's the Razormaid remix. Razormaid is a DJ service which makes
official remixes but only for clubs. The records were only distributed to
DJ's.
This mix can be found on several bootlegs like '1st DJ edition', 'The rem=

hi kwf's !
i wrote originally :
does anybody of u know somethin' about a certain mix / version of kw's "sex
object" , labelled as "the first edition of a u.s. dj promo version" with an
approximate length of 07:30 ??? *jus'_curious* ;-)
fyi : i've jus' downloaded that particular mix / version in a very good
sound quality ( 160 kbps / 44 khz ) & it sounds "official" to my ears !!!
*G+* ;-)
then ivo peeters wrote :
I suppose it's the Razormaid remix. Razormaid is a DJ service which makes
official remixes but only for clubs. The records were only distributed to
DJ's.
This mix can be found on several bootlegs like '1st DJ edition', 'The remix'
and 'Schöne neue Welt'.
mrs. ROBOT replied ( on the "kraftwerkfans" list ;-) :
Could that be the same "DEMO" version from the legendary TECHNOPOP album?
It's a different arrangement, but, it's definitely KRAFTWERK themselves and
not a cover tune. I have it on a bootleg CD somewhere....
andreas storf a.k.a. ON/OFF replied ( also on the "kraftwerkfans" list ;-) :
this special "SEX OBJECT"-song is, as much as i know "Just" a official remix
by Razormaid.
This song officially appeared on 12" and CD Maxi in the US (and some
selceted stores in europe)
It´s performed in both languages English and German in one mix, but
unfortuneatly not including the spanish version which was used by Gloria
Estefan in one certain maxi mix of her own most popular songs...
... & john shilcock finally wrote :
The Razormaid CD is part of a 2 CD set Cat Num. RM-CD-10
Sex Objekt is track 7
The credits shown are "Re-edited by Joseph Watt. Courtesy of Warner
Brothers Records. Thanks to Craig Kostch and Peter Cadera."
Track Length 7mins 40secs at 132 beats per minute
This is also available on a white vinyl 12", also from Razormaid.
~*~
okay now ... this is what i DEFINITELY_KNOW by now :
1.) it's _NOT_ the "demo version" of the never released "techno-pop" album
of 1983 , because this "demo version" ( afaik !!! ;-) is only about 4 mins.
long & the mix / version i'm referrin' to is approximate 07:30 +/- 1 sec. or
so !!! ;-)
2.) by now , i highly doubt that it is a mix / remix / version / whatever by
razormaid , simply because the mix / version i'm talkin' about _HASN'T_ this
"specific razormaid sound treatment" written all over its arrangement & to
me it really sounds like an "official version" ( maybe an "early or earlier
version" !? ;-) of "sex object" by kw itself , but only 40 secs. longer than
the "original album version" taken from their 1986 album "electric cafe" !!!
;-)
3.) if u want to check your mixes / versions of "sex object" once again , i
can say that the mix / version i'm referrin' to starts 'n' ends with this
highly significant whispered 'n' echoed "ja ... nein ..." vocals !!! ;-)
so far ... so "mysterious" !!! *G+* ;-)
however ... thanx a lot for all your "input" on this kind of conundrum ,
which was buggin' me for some time !!! *BWG* ;-)))
p. s. : maybe i'll try to upload the mix / version i've "found somewhere in
the webwideworld" to the "kraftwerkfans" file archive & enable the public
access to this section of it ... if egroups.de / yahoo! groups let me do
this !!! *hopeful_smile* :-)
fyi : i'll let u know , if & when this has happened & then u can all
download the mix / version i was talkin' about !!! ;-)
anyway ... greetinx ,
oh jay ;-)

BTW... I finished this (book) a couple of weeks back and it's a jolly good

It's almost correct:
Meine Dammen und Herren
Ladies and gentlemen
Heute Abend
Aus Deutschland
Die Mensch-Maschine
Kraftwerk
Translation for the non-German speakers:
My ladies and gentleman
Today's evening
From Germany
The Man-Machine
Powerplant
I've heard it (partially) in French, too (Allemange, L'homme-machine...).
Any more flavours?

OK, I'll give up. :-D
I've just updated the Books section of the FAQ. Some of you might be
interested in taking a look at this, if only for the scan of the tastefully
decorated Japanese edition of Pascal Bussy's book.
http://web.bham.ac.uk/busbykg/kraftwerk/FAQ/further-information.html#book
Thanks to Yoichiro Ogo for that scan and for various pieces of information.
I note an interesting link on Yoichiro's web site:
http://ww9.tiki.ne.jp/~houten3/ I can't read Japanese, but the MP3s are
entertaining covers of Kraftwerk songs in a Japanese-Technopop style!

I note an interesting link on Yoichiro's web site:
http://ww9=2Etiki=2Ene=2Ejp/~houten3/ I can't read Japanese, but the MP3s are
entertaining covers of Kraftwerk songs in a Japanese-Technopop style!
Thank you Kevin for yet another great contribution to this list, they are=20=
really funny/good megamixcovers, it's like Yellow Magic Orchestra going=20=
KRAFTWERK completely=2E
Don't miss these, I had some problems downloading but it is worth the=20=
trouble, the expo-mixes are really Japanese!

Automat, sorry to hear your work has been plagiarised. I hope you have
written to the hosts of the offending page (Geocities) and the site which
links to it (www.sci.fi/~phinnweb/): they would be in a better position to
do anything about the matter, I think.
Unfortunately, in my experience Geocities does not bother replying to email
about copyright infringement, which is a lousy attitude. Try them anyway.
Good luck!
Kevin
PS I suppose there's some irony in LFO's _name_ having been ripped off by
another band! :-(

Hello,
Just saw this at GEMM:
http://www6.gemm.com/c/search.pl?sid=7591901&key=96711&a_refno=GML91200348
Thought this 2 CD reissue of Man Machine was never released !
What is / was supposed to be except the original LP?
I'll still try to order it.

As part of my 'learning curve' for gaining knowledge of all things 'the net'
I have recently updated my site www.keepwerking.co.uk, which you may like to
look around.
One addition, which may be of particular interest to those of you who create
your own music, is the inclusion of the music scores for Computer World,
Tour de France and The Model. (on the "Downloads" page)
For those of you who are new to this list, and/or my site, at
www.keepwerking.co.uk you'll also find an extract of a rare version of Neon
Lights, loads of unique pictures and lots to keep you entertained for a
while.
Explore and have fun

KRAFTWERK ANTHOLOGIES Vol. 1-3
----
Lot's of people would like to hear all those rare tracks with Kraftwerk.
Not all want to buy loads and loads of CD with these tracks - So I decided
to make
three CD-ROMs filled with Kraftwerk tracks.
I call them Kraftwerk Anthology vol 1-3, they contain
mp3 files. A mp3 file is a compressed sound format, the quality is
very good. A mp3 file CD-ROM can not be played in an ordinary
Audio CD-player, but it can be played on a computer with a sound -
card and it can be transferred to CD or tape.
The quality is 128 kbps/ 44 Khz/ Stereo
Each CD-ROM contains more than 12 hours of kraftwerk, and comes with
a cover - and it's only US$40/£30/80DM for the set of 3 CDROMs
Postage all over the world included.
Please note that the CDROMs will be mailed without the jewel-boxes.
Mail me the money in cash, by airmail - registered if you don't want
to take any risk. No checks or money orders please - they cost me
10$ to cash!!!
Mail the money to:
Lars Nellemann
Kirsebaer Alle 25
DK-3450 Allerod
DENMARK
Notify me by e-mail before sending any money.
I mail you the CD, when I receive the money - airmail, anywere in
the world.

Not to criticize your great idea, but why so expensive? Especially withou=
t
jewel cases and nice covers. It's a prohibitive price.
At least half the tracks you listed I've downloaded from various places i=
n
the last few years, or already have in the original form. I'm sure if I
actually made an effort I could find the others. I could burn them on CDR=
s
for 50 cents a disk, plus say another $2.50 to make a nice jewel case and
color label, plus no more than $10 to ship anywhere in the world. If I
wanted to profit from reselling other people's music I would add on 10% t=
o
25% for myself, and it would still only be at most US$20 for the set.

Lars really has a great business set up!
Bootlegs of bootlegs and total theft of Kraftwerk's genuine stuff.
It makes Napster look innocent.

Nike has done it again with an ad campaign that is ala
Kraftwerk.
First an ad campaign about 2 months ago with the words
NON-STOP.
Now, a TV ad with sampled beats precisely to
Numbers... but the drum beats are sampled to
basketball dribbling, shoe squeak noises and even
breakdancing.
Can you imagine... Michael Jordan has competition.

I agree. Whether it's right or not, it's always the case that fans will want
to exchange concert bootlegs of their favourite artists. But selling CDROMs
for profit is a pirate business, particularly when some of the releases
(e.g. Balanescu Quartet's 'Possessed' and the 'Trancewerk Express'
compilation) are commercially available. Financial reward for this work
belongs to the artists who created the work.
Please reconsider, Lars!

Kevin

The font used is Futura; the specific weight is either Futura light or
Futura book (I don't have the album sleeve with me at the moment).
Futura was designed between 1928-32 in Weimar Germany by Paul Renner, an
advocate of the teaching of the Bauhaus school of design. One of the first
systematically designed sans serif style typefaces, it is still widely used
today.
It is available from Linotype at https://www.fontexplorer.com (click on

Funny, I just heard most of the new Ladytron album and I thought it was
terrible. Unimaginitive, boring, the same few chord progressions used in
every song. Embarassing to even mention in the same breath as Kraftwerk.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess....

I can understand that. Perhaps, since i have been listening to dark-wave
synth pop lately (I suggest The Faint's Blank-wave Arcade), and i notice a
lot of similarities between dark wave and kraftwerk, i made the connections
with Ladytron.

Hi, werkers,
I remind ,in the mid '80ies, when The Robots (original version)
was played, for a very brief periode on the italian channels, in a cat food
spot ( KIT&KAT ) (sigh!) .
It is (IMO) a utopia to make a search in the italian Tv archive for that
spot.
Has anyone further elements to rebuilt this courious event?
Was KWK music (or is recently) used for advertising spots in other
countries?
If yes, for what products?
(EXCEPT :stationbreaks, MTVbreaks, opening/ending programme tunes and so
on....).
Thanks for any input!

Odd, here in The Netherlands we had a KitKat commercial with The Telephone
Call (I think, last year). "Have a break, have a KitKat". The biscuit, not
the cat food.

There's a 'animation' ? of Pocket Calculator at:

Select 'Kraftwerk' from the 'artisr' drop-down menu item.
IMHO in it's not worth the bandwidth unless you have a high-speed

It gets more and more harder to find kraftwerk on napster.
I tried some title-keywords in combination with artist "kraftwerk".
That's what I found:
autobahn - nothing
model - nothing
computerlove - nothing
computerliebe - nothing
radioactivity - nothing
radioaktivität - nothing
heimcomputer - nothing
homecomputer - nothing
stop - no "Music Non Stop", only "Stop Sellafield"
europe - only variations
trans europa - only variations
calculator - only variations
robots - variations like "die robots" (very crude)
machine - variations like "mensch machine"
modell - normal
maschine - normal
france - normal
expo - normal
taschenrechner - normal
roboter - normal
Some German versions are left, so hurry.
Soon there will be only remixes.
Dirk from Hamburg.

This is because Napster is now required to censor its own content, and is
working on becoming a pay service. Essentially Napster is dead. It's all
because of the RIAA strong-arming the U.S. legal system.
Time to find another peer-to-peer network.

Thank you for the information. I am attempting to get it on my system now
but apparently they have a problem on their end of the link.
So for those of you who are using Bear Share, I should be there before too
long, if it will work with my system.
In the mean time, my server at ftp://24.7.251.51 is up and running - I have
Kraftwerk and other music available, and am trying to improve my selection.
Anonymous downloads will work just fine.
If you have something that I don't and would like to upload it, the username
kraftwerk and the password kraftwerk will give you upload access (there is
no upload access permitted for anonymous FTP). This has not been tested to
this point, however, so if someone would please attempt an upload and let me
know, I would appreciate it.

After d'loading a few tunes from this band, I must say that their song "He
Took Her To A Movie" has some undeniable similarities to "The Model" and
"Neon Lights", and you don't have to listen too close either.
In fact, is a mix of those two songs only with different lyrics sung by a
chic. If you don't hear Kraftwerk there, take your speakers to the cleaners.
