(i swear i'm not making this up...) i haven't seen her since i got back, so i'll give her a call and see what happened... anyways, the pass was bright green with a mouse pointer icon and it said something like kraftwerk world tour - aftershow pass... about 25 of us came from toronto and our car got to the state theatre first around 5 . as we turned into the parking lot i couldn't believe my eyes...the robots were on the sidewalk and lined up having their pictures taken ! i practically ran out of the car and quickly proceeded to the scene...there were about 20 people milling around...and lo and behold...R+F !!! i got out my sharpie and my radioaktivitat cd5 and went up to them...them both talked to me for a few minutes and signed my cd...i asked them about the world tour and they said that they would be coming back to canada (last time in toronto was 1981 ! ) after that mind blowing experience, we waited in line then went in... the state theatre is beautiful, fabulous set up, and great ambience... we went right to the front and waited...i met quite a few people at the front, and we talked for a long time about trading KW videos and other stuff...at about 8:30 the blips started...then the familiar vocoder intro... then the beginning strains of numbers...the crowd at this point was going crazy...then the curtains opened... holy shit !!! i was five feet away from kling klang central...tons and tons of gear...nord lead 2, studio electronics moog, s-7000's, optical drives, doepher analog sequencers, unbelievable... one song after another was pure ecstasy...TEE was incredible, the video editing alone was fabulous... the version of airwaves was amazing, although ralf had vocal trouble at the beginning...every one was freaking out...after the curtain closed for the first time, the crowd started chanting "boing ping tschak"... the curtain opened to reveal nothing but kling klang and the video screens...we were treated to a version of the robots with great videos...then the screens descended and behind them...the robots ! at this point the crowd went really nuts...it was cool, and except for a robot getting stuck, it was wild... then, IMHO, the best part of the show...what i like to call "THE SOUNDTRACK TO TRON"... i almost had a heart attack when i saw the suits...black light and glow in the dark neon green stripes... wow... they ended with music non stop, and left the stage one by one to the strains of the words musique non stop... after the show, all people were saying was how the show blew them away... i bumped into mr efofex himself and i will be sending you some mp3's, mr. talbert... we found out that the band were going to a club called motor to see some jazz, so a bunch of my friends went, they said that florian was wearing his black concert outfit and ralf had changed into a sharp black suit and tie. they chatted with fans and signed autographs... sorry for the blabbering on, dave p.s....anyone bootleg the detroit show ??? i'd be VERY interested in a copy... # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? Radioactivity the song is basically a minimoog playing the bass line, something (I really don't know but it almost sounds like an electric piano) playing the stark melody, the drums - which probably were pretty modified organ drum sounds or simply triggering the white noise of an analog synthesizer and adding some reverb, and then the Vako Orchestron for the voices. Believe me - I am so sure that they used an Orchestron that the only thing that would make me hesitate is the fact that I wasn't there. When you listen to the tail end of that song, you hear deep male voices fading away - - in these voices, you can a) hear scratchy noise and b) hear where the "sample" loops itself because it is not a very clean loop. I own an Orchestron and I have the "Vocal Choir" light disk that KW used - I press the same low note that is in "Radioactivity" and yes - the same scratches are there and the exact same loop break point. Mellotron voices were at least 50% clearer than the Orchestron and they don't even sound alike. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? I studied this at the Tribal Gathering performance. I was at the front and the pedals were at eye level. From what I saw and heard, each member had a pedal that was their reverb send and another that was their delay send. It controlled how much of their sound went to those effects. I saw Fritz and Florian each add emphasis to certain notes or sounds, either with a wash of reverb or a delay set to some fraction of the beat. That only accounts for two pedals out of the four or more pedals each of them had. The other ones control parameters related to their individual performances that aren't easy to discern just by listening (as many have observed). From what I can tell one of the pedals postpones their new album by six months.:-) I did notice that the pedals are spring loaded and can be locked down if you step on them a certain way. Fritz seems to do this mostly. I may know more after tonight, as I will see them at the Hammerstein and hope to get up close again. At Tribal I was in front of Florian but tonight I am planning to skew more "Ralf." It's just ten hours away until the NY performance. I'm most looking forward to the new Airwaves and following track, and Man Machine, which was excellent at Tribal. I don't know if there's a meeting spot for after the show but I hope to meet some list members anyway. See you on line! I'll post my review next week. Why it was so wholesome and we saw each other a lot.. but for us literary folks who like to write and express through words... this is the best years.. before the technology will put a camera and a mic on every computer--I rule in my own way.. and she did to. ( ]/[ ). Ban the Bahn? hehehehe! this sign is a common sight in Britain and the rest of Europe. It means 'end of freeway' - it is the last road sign you see as you leave the freeway and rejoin the normal road network! oh my god! Kraftwerk made a joke! ;) jon alsbury i want to die in my sleep like my grandfather ... not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? Sounded better than most live recordings I've heard. No feedback on Aetherwellen this time. Nice little movies on the background screens. I especially liked the picnicers in "Autobahn", as well as the dog with its head out the window! Return of the guy with the laser pointer! I don't think Florian got zapped this time, but the Pointer Person did target someone standing behind the curtain. Only one technical glitch that I could notice: the curtains had trouble closing after TEE. Florian was still "having trouble" with his MIDI box, though I think that's just part of the act. He kept clumsily jabbing at the thing and missing, tossed it up in the air and caught it, and did the duck walk with it as the curtains closed. The others joined in a bit; Ralf and Henning were holding their boxes up to their ears as if they couldn't hear them... And Florian almost bounced off the stage at the end of the show; like John Cleese running from Mr. Creosote in "The Meaning of Life"... Good audience response, although there seemed to be very little dancing. I think people were too mesmerized by the show. Or packed in too tightly. There was a huge line, too-- all the way down to Ninth Ave., around the corner, down the block, and around the other corner. But it moved quickly. Dang, I probably could have brought my tape recorder after all-- the guy next to me did! I'm going to bed now. Hope everyone else enjoyed the show, and that the folks waiting for the upcoming shows enjoy them as well. HEUTE ABEND-- ICH GEHE JETZT ZU BETT. Well just think.. when I'm older and long married.. I'll tell my family about the old days of computer love, Kraftwerk, and cyber relationships. Why it was so wholesome and we saw each other a lot.. but for us literary folks who like to write and express through words... this is the best years.. before the technology will put a camera and a mic on every computer--I rule in my own way.. and she did to. No need to get out.. why.. 19 years.. beats KW's record.. but hey, the WWW is right here--yah... maybe someday they'll call that the world at our finger-tips. I avoided the reviews from the other shows, so I wasn't sure if they brought the robots with them on this tour. Well, when they were showing videos of the robots during "the robots" I thought they didn't. When they were unveiled after what I thought was the end of the song... I was sooo happy! I was struck with the political natures of Radioactivity and Autobahn. And, Pocket Calculator was a very happy time on stage! No one mentioned (that I caught in my readings) that Florian played air guitar with the calculator! He took the chord and held it up like it was the neck of a guitar and did his best cock-rock impression!! I was cracking up!! :) Anyway, is the guy with the bright yellow(green?orange??) radioactivity shirt who was in the front row on this list? Boy, you really stood out from on the boxes on the balcony. I can't wait until 1999 for that tour!! The ecstacy from the kw show certainly dulled the pain of finding out that the phoenix festival is cancelled, thus bringing my chances of seeing new order to nearly nil. Anyway, that's all.
