The band were playing some mighty fine live glokenspiel & orchestron fuelled rewerkings of the tune at this time, so one might hope this 'remix' captures some of that? (By the way - can any musos on the list confirm my suspicions on this one: On the "Concert Classics" live version, it sounds to me like Karl is playing all his glokenspiel tinkles *major*, when the chord progression is definately | C major | D *minor* | E *minor* | F major | (well, no-one's playing any chords, but Ralf's melody implies this, since he plays F natural over Florian's D bass notes, and G natural over Florian's E bass notes) This is a classic punk rock ploy (cf 'Anarchy In the UK'), playing everything major when some chords should be minor- it RRRROCKS! Go Karl baby!! ;-) On the other hand, my ears may just be playing tricks on me... I haven't actually sat down at the piano with the CD in my headphones to make completely sure. Any thoughts? It's a bit like a polished demo for Kometenmelodie as on the Autobahn LP. Also, Kohoutek-Kometenmelodie 1 is the speedy track, 2 is the slow one. If you are from germany, try to find the LP 'Super Group Festival' (blue graphics-only cover) on Philips, this has Kohoutek-Kometenmelodie 2 on it and normally can be found in the cheapo samplers section somewhere. The comet in question was found by a an astronomer named Kohoutek. It didn't ignite when passing the earth, so no-one remembers it. In my copy there is a sticker that says 'File under Kraftwerk', and I think this is not very respectful to Flur. Anyway, it is worth to buy it. I would also like to ask the opinion of the people on the list about 'Aphex Twin'. When I bought the Richard D. James album, there was a sticker on it saying that no other electronic band sounded as organic as Aphex Twin since Kraftwerk. I don't know what they meant by organic, especially because I consider both bands to be quite cold and 'inorganic', but that cd really reminded my of the melodic Kraftwerk (Autobahn, Tour de France, ...). I think Aphex Twin is a very original and interesting band, but I would like to hear your opinion. Well I wouldn't say it looked just like "Die Mensch-maschine". It's more like a mix of that and the promo picture for Komputer where the three members stands in a V shape manner and the camera looks from above. Anyway I think is much more funny that the leader of "Autobahn" is also a porno acter. The scene where the "Autobahns" attacks Jeff with a gettoblaster playing techno is also really funny. In my copy there is a sticker that says 'File under Kraftwerk', and I think this is not very respectful to Flur. Anyway, it is worth to buy it. I would also like to ask the opinion of the people on the list about 'Aphex Twin'. When I bought the Richard D. James album, there was a sticker on it saying that no other electronic band sounded as organic = as Aphex Twin since Kraftwerk. Kohoutek was a comet that reached perihelion in late 1973 - it was named (as is usual) after the Czechoslovakian astronomer that discovered it. It was expected to be really brilliant like the series of Great Comets that were seen in the nineteenth century, but unfortunately turned out to be a bit of a damp squid, though it did briefly become visible to the naked eye. My insider sources tell me that, like their first single, Kraftwerk intend to name their next album after the comet to celebrate Kohoutek's return in approximately 70,000 years time... ;-) jon alsbury # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? I think Aphex Twin is a >very original and interesting band, but I would like to hear your >opinion. I totally agree. Aphex is brilliant, and probably the most original and innovative artist around at the moment. But I can't really see him as close to Kraftwerk as you suggest. But, having said that, quite a few of the simple melodies on the "Richard D. James" album have a certain Kraftwerkian feel to them. But in my opinion his best album is "I Care Because You Do". That's just genius! But maybe this is quite off topic so I don't know if this is the right place to have this discussion... ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? I mean, if you record whatever it happen for an year of more or less random playing, chances are that a good tune or two will come out. this is not to demean AT: I think his recording production is just a bit hypertrophic and it discourage me from buying his things, when I know I'll like say a song or two every album. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? Proper introductions are in order. I'm new to the list and would just like to introduce myself to everyone (it said I should do so in the FAQ, so in the name of good taste I'm complying). My first real Kraftwerk experience was a few months ago at the Roskilde Festival, when I saw them from right in front of the stage. Until that point I hadn't heard much about Kraftwerk except little tidbits here and there, but after the show I became a rabid follower. There was one thing at the concert (actually, it was before) which really got my attention: the white-on-blue Autobahn t-shirts. Due to lack of cash (already on the first day of the festival. It's strange living on beer and white bread for almost a week), I couldn't get one, though. So I wanted to ask if anyone out there knows where you can buy one, either at stores around the Northeast Ohio area, or somewhere on the web. Any help would be greatly appreciated. nick -- a lost little robot # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions?
