Which KW bootleg has the best sound quality? From what I've heard... the Warfield recording. The sound is better than being there was, as I recall. But I prefer... what I've heard of the Karlsruhe recording is sumptuous and special, and I wish the recording were as crisp and warm as the Warfield's. ] 2. Which KW tribute song or album do you prefer? ] 3. Which KW sound-alike band do like better? I don't know... I haven't heard any sound-alike bands or tributes. And I'm skeptical because there is something mysterious about Kraftwerk themselves... I think it has to do both with an integrity of form, the songs have a structure that hold them together. And in addition the conservation 0f energy in each song, and the clean and simple melodies that don't ever sound trite. There's a special warm sound and shape to the melodies as well, like the soaring sounds during "Europa Endlos" and the Technopop demo. Also that it's German. I don't know too much of the German language but words like Aether, have a mysterious and spiritual kind of component that backs up their scientific face. It allows the band to extract a lot of subtle glow behind a seemingly 'cold' exterior. So this is analogous to Kraftwerk. My other favorite musician is the late conductor Wilhelm Furtwangler, who is able to draw such wonderful sounds from orchestras. Kraftwerk's music is like a wonderful ride on a clean, flying machine. It was a natural first choice for a first ride on a bullet-train. There's an ecstasy that the band create that is somehow encoded in the sound, and fits perfectly with the rhythms of a fast train, a kind of technological ennoblement of the individual. I try to describe Kraftwerk to people and one thing that strikes me is that it's electronic music, but it's based in music and not in electronics. Sure they have the latest gadgets, but there's something behind it. It never loses its way in its own gimmickry. Of course many people have different tastes and some never really find their way in hearing Kraftwerk's music. Somehow I latched on to it the first time. Maybe it's an easy soundtrack for me because I work combining art and science. So there's no real cut 'formula' for imitating them, and really no substitute for the purist. Well, though opinion but I must say I have straight different experience. I have more than 100 TDK's CD-R recorded (both data and audio) and I spoiled only two of them (and it was due to my mistake!). More of that I receive constant feedback from the market and it seems majority of customers appreciate the quality of TDK CD-Rs which is represented e.g. by our market share. It is also confirmed by independent sources, like: ComputerBILD 17/98 -> in top six there were three TDK CD-Rs (first Philips was 7th, Sony 13th and Verbatim 16th). Nevertheless, it is free market and thankfully we all can choose from few good brands available to purchase. If you found some problems with our products I think it's good idea to pass this claims to the place of purchase and I'm sure they will be checked very carefully by our Quality Assurance Department. Thanks for all those who replied to my two questions about good quality CD-R's. I got a lot of private responses as well. I will reply to you all and let you know what ended up being my best buy. It is definitely not MAXELL; at least not for the burner that I have; a HEWLETT PACKARD 7200 series. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? Paul Morley (AON) ----- "You talk about Kraftwerk. I consider Kraftwerk to be Group Zero. In the true history of music, they're the most important thing, as opposed to the other history of music where Elvis Presley was the most important." Paul Hartnoll (Orbital) ----- "Kraftwerk is where it really all started." Paul Morley (AON) ---- "And indeed where it will all finish." For the ZTT list : Got all three Amplified custom CD's in the mail. Quite pleased. I love the opening of "A Time To Hear (What languages are those voice samples in ? It sounds like Italian and Japanese.) " and "Who's Afraid of Scale". Why is it that some demo tracks sound better than the released versions ? As far as the "flaws" are concerned, I mean, what the fuck do you expect ? They're demos for crying out loud; of course they're going to have glitches in them ! Maybe it has some relevance considering >>Kraftwerk drove Volkswagens for some time. >I'm not exactly sure about who owns what, but I do know that VW / Porsche >/Audi are related (or at least they were). I think Porsche is somewhat separate, though the VW-Porsche 914 used a VW engine, I think, while some low-end Porsches of the 80s (and maybe even the 968?) used VW/Audi engines and Audi transmissions. VW owns Audi since some time in the 70s; then Audi 50 (few made, I think) = VW Polo; Audi 80 = VW Derby; now, the A3 and TT share the Golf/Jetta ("Bora" :) platform; the current Passat chassis is loosely based on the A4. The 1.8 Turbo engine is shared. It all is quite obvious when you look in an engine compartment - in my old 5000S, there are VW and Audi emblems side-by-side everywhere. Why the question, though? (BTW, besides VW owning RR/Bentley to some large fraction (excl. the name?), Audi owns Lamborghini...) # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? After a bit of working with it (my cheap carousel CD player requires to 'check' the CD after selecting it while the tray is out - if you turn to it after closing the tray, it rejects it)/(my NT-PC-at-work's CD player program rejects it as a data CD, but 'media player' works), I'm very much enjoying the new TdF CD. Even though the picture has been at kraftwerk.com for years, I just now realized that it's The 4 on those bikes - the one on the right is Florian, I'd guess Ralf is #1 or maybe #3. But are the other two WF and KB, or have they been edited to be Fritz and Henning? <:) (I couldn't believe my eyes when I noticed they'd mirrored Fritz in the mix album...) And who is Schmitt, as listed for Text on the back? I know that the HMV on 34th Street & 6th Avenue (where I purchased my own copy) still has them plentifully in stock. You'll not find them mixed in amongst the other Kraftwerk discs, but rather they're displayed on the shelf directly *above* the Kraftwerk section. They may also be in the CD single section at the front of the store as well if you can't find them on the shelf by the other KW albums. By now I'd be surprised if Other Music on West 4th Street off Broadway didn't also have them in stock yet. I had checked another HMV location on 46th Street & 5th Avenue earlier that day and there were none to speak of - not because they sold out but because they hadn't put them out in the first place. That particular location is a snip smaller and always seems to have far less of a selection. Stick with 34th & 6th Ave if you're in NYC and are searching for 'Tour de France' on CD. nebulous@erols.com "Wir sind die Roboter..." # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions?
