BTW, Towa Tei has an album entitled Sweet Robots Against the Machine (1999). The following is quoted from the iMusic Club Showcase website http://imusic.com/showcase/club/towatei.html: Towa's interest in art and technology have naturally become even stronger with Sound Museum (Elektra/Asylum, 1998). The enhanced CD version of the album includes several interactive features, including a playful Towa designed companion piece that celebrates the song and the typeface: "GBI (German Bold Italic)" (Arthrob, 1998). But perhaps it's the albums last track, "Everything We Do Is Music," that best captures Towa's attitude as he works toward the next millennium. The track is kicked off by a stutter-step sample of a voice harking: "Musical android." Tinker toy percussive sounds splinter the intro into even stranger cut-and-paste vocal samples, until the chant "Everything We Do Is Music," can be deciphered over a myriad of techno, disco and Kraftwerk-like rhythms. WinAmp and some other MP3 players can convert to WAV. Any MP3 compressor does the reverse. Programs that convert RA/RM to anything else could get their authors in trouble because RealNetworks file formats are proprietary and supposed to be secret. As a member of a few music lists, I must say that, (for better or worse), this KW list is WAY different from the others. I'm new to the list, this is a first post. I've enjoyed KW since hearing Autobahn on the radio in the 70's. Since 1979 I've made comp tapes of electronic music to accompany my "kinetic art." The tapes have had Jean-Michelle Jarre, Tomita, Gary Numan, and of course, Kraftwerk. Once in a segment on PM Magazine Utah, I supplied a bit of "Airwaves" from Radio-Activity, they did a little feature on my "Kineticon" - a self-contained, mechanized diorama-style display of gizmos. That was the best, and by far the best electronic I've ever found has been KW. Not only was it ground-breaking in its time, but it stands the test of time much better, withstanding repeat play, having more feeling, serving up a metaphorical machine complement like nothing else I've heard. To me, Kraftwerk is synonymous with kinetic, as in kinetic art. Of course I listen to it on its own. KW can make fine background music, but most of the other electronic I have is ONLY good for background. There is nothing similar to selecting a cut like 'Antenna' with the stereo loud! I used to make out in my car listening to Man-Machine, 1979. My girlfriend didn't have a clue at first, but it became a deep-set romantic memory in time. (I remember a review in Creem Magazine or somewhere, about KW being good make-out music.) I've always 'seen' the neon lights in "Neon Lights." All that's in the past. KW is timeless, though. Here's hoping for more tidbits like Expo 2k. D. Hi Annahal, welcome to the list. If you haven't heard them, you should check out the band Laibach. I bet you'd like them. I'd suggest the albums "Nato," "Let It Be," or "Kapital", to start off with. ---Jason # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions?
