Last night I remember seeing in CNN's Headlines or something, the results of some survey saying that the Germans have the greatest sense of humor, and Canadians were at the bottom of the list. Could someone please verify this info? I happen to work for a German company (Heraeus) here in the States and the few German co-workers I have are pretty funny and L-O-U-D too. They probably laugh at the way I pronounce Fluer and Hutter (I won't even tell) and before you even ask, they only know "The Model" and "Autobahn". Just for the record, I think plenty of Kraftwerk songs are extremely hilarious. I even imagine Ralf and Co. having a ball when playing them (not that it shows or anything. Got to keep that sharp robot image in tiptop shape, u know?) OTOH, Canadians are probably unhappy because of the alcohol and tobacco prices... can't blame them! not only that, almost every funny Canadian comedian that I know emigrated to USA... I found Canadians have an English-type humor. Just worse. Many Americans don't understand English humor, but Canadian humor is just even worse. There is a Canadian show called "The Kids in The Hall" that plays here in America, and it is very awkward, I can't believe some people laugh at some of the most-unfunniest things, then again Tom Green is from Canada, and check out all of his fans... Just because German people have a stereotype of being semi-evil and all serious doesn't mean that they aren't funny at all. Early Kraftwerk is a particular warm subject for me, so here goes: 1. KRISTALLO This is just a masterpiece. It's in my opinion the most underrated song they ever did. Just hearing the first five seconds of this track makes me all happy, with that warm fuzzy feeling inside ;) The first movement of this song is arguably the best electronic music ever conceived. Yep. Experienced on an audiophile setup on Japanese vinyl, it's the closest thing to magic. I'm searching for a mint copy of R&F from Japan btw.. Anyone? Mine is scratchy :( 2. RUCKZUCK I'm not into dancing as Doppelg=E4nger is, but this track is very = powerful nonetheless! It's one of the few early tracks that clearly show what is to come in the future. I would almost kill for a modern techno remix of this song.. :D (Anyone feel up to it?? I sadly lack the skills and the time...) 3. KOHOUTEK The precursor to computer games music? This song is very special in some way I can't really begin to define.. Anyone want to sell the 7" of this one to me? I've been looking and looking and looking... Well, this is pretty easy.. I never liked the Computer World album. Nope. The only tracks I loved from that album is Numbers and Computerwelt (but they more than make up for the rest of the album.. Numbers *rocks*), but the rest is just...too commercial :/ Autobahn isn't too great either (the song). Way too long, with quite a load of annoying sounds to boot. It's fabulous live though :) And with the risk of causing a flame war, I must add that Telephone Call is a highly annoying tune! By far their worst single, ever. Never really enjoyed The Mix either, except Radioactivity, which is just wonderful as usual. The original Radioaktivit=E4t is one of my all-time faves! (and yes, the German version.. Kraftwerk should be in German, or it's not working for me) So, the top five overrated songs: 1. Computer Love (any version) 2. Home Computer (any version) 3. Pocket Calculator (any version) 4. By the way, I also wouldn't be able to process credit cards if I sold a record on eBay, but that's not a real problem in my opinion. I've often sent registered envelopes with $ cash and it always worked. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? It's just that sending cash costs $6 for postage and a couple more at the exchange agent, not to mention it's a lot of extra work (for me at least - I live far from the city). Most people can use PayPal though, which is just SO convenient.. :) # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? I sadly lack the skills and the time...) for your information: there already was a kind of "modern techno remix" of "ruckzuck" back in 1991(?) by a group called the technokrats on the german rough mix dance offshoot of rough trade rec.! ;) maybe i can dig this out and upload a version of it to the kraftwerkfans yahoo! group (ah! what a shameless plug! ;) later today or tomorrow! ;) anyway, i'll let you know, how i've decided, fellows! ;) - - der d0ppelgänger :) _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Lange her ..." Having a song with as the lyrics "fahr'n fahr'n"... I think that is very humorous. And it sounds good too. There are quite some jokes in their music, "Kling Klang" has a bit where the power plug is pulled. I remember playing the record the very first time, and worriedly hurrying to my record player when it happened. Elektrisches Roulette is one too. Stratovarius is playing with words too.. stratocaster+stradivarius. Autobahn is fun in itself, and humorous when the radio is being switched on, the The Mix version even more. Ohm Sweet Ohm another bit of humor, News is funny, Radio Stars is a joke, Intermission is funny. Die Mensch Maschine, ein Wesen und ein Ding, in the echoes you hear "tingelingeling" instead, quite funny. It's more fun to compute. The list goes on, actually most of their tracks are funny if you don't take the serious-looking outer shell serious (oh dear). If you've ever seen Schneider while playing Pocket Calculator (on the top of his head) you know that these guys are not as serious as their image portrays.
