From: "John Hatch" Subject: [LDS-Bookshelf] The Wild Blue and Plagiarism Date: 06 Jan 2002 11:40:18 -0700 Although this isn't an LDS book, I think it might interest many on this list. Stephen Ambrose has been accused of plagiarism for his latest book, "The Wild Blue". Dr. Ambrose acknowledged that he borrowed several passages from another book and although he cites the book in his notes, he does not say that he quotes directly from it. He has apologized for this and has said future printings of the book will be corrected. You can read about it here: http://www.cnn.com/2002/SHOWBIZ/books/01/06/plagiarism.ambrose.ap/index.html If you are interested and haven't picked up a first edition of the book yet, now may be the time to go look for one. He published the first Dutch Book of Mormon in that capacity, 1890, and his name thus appears on its title page (Jacobs 88.B.). What a shame that the seller could not be bothered to crack the covers and spend a few hours writing a description in order to earn the $50,000 he seeks! My best guess is that if this is the same Brown, and if the diary gives a good history of the publication of the first Dutch Book of Mormon, the journal might be worth as much as the high hundreds or very low thousands.
