I need four of these. We only have 1 hr. at bedtime for our snack and night activity! For the YW: She argues about every aspect of the gospel. Today I was talking to them about profanity and taking the name of the Lord in Vane. We have a real problem in our YW's group of them taking the Lords name in vane! We talked about alot of things along these lines, she just kept saying who says it is bad who decides that a word is swear word. When I have explained that taking Lords name in Vane is against the one of the ten commandments, and is scripture from the Lord. I guess I expect the conversation to be over, but with this YW it isn't she will argue through the whole lesson. I am getting to where I don't know how to deal with her and I feel to some degree she is disruptive!! HELP! You are all so wonderful at this! Maybe you can give me some ideas on how to better aproach the problem of them taking the Lords name in Vane. In our YW's group in a couple of months we are going to adopt a hospital and crochet preemie blankets, hats, and booties. Also we will be working on this with our R.S. and we will help make burial gowns for these special preemie spirits that don't make it. This is someone talking about the need on the internet: "The most heartbreaking need that we must provide for is the beautiful, tiny burial layettes for the babies who die and only need one last outfit and blanket to be snuggled in. A hand picked team of volunteers from across the States respond quickly to requests for burial layettes. These caring volunteers use their sewing skills in creating beautiful tiny gowns and accessories to ease the trauma and anguish of the family of the tiny infant. Some of the volunteers sew, some crochet, some knit, some even tat precious creations for God's tiniest children's last needs. Finished items are shipped to Newborns in Need and assembled into layettes, and quickly shipped to the requesting organization, usually the Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the children's hospitals we serve. .When a baby dies, it is impossible in many cases to find clothing small enough for the baby to be buried in. Parents are relieved to find layettes provided that will fit their tiny baby. Parents are so wrapped up in shock and grief that it is almost too much for them to handle to deal with burial garments. Newborns in Need has provided burial layettes for babies of all sizes, many as small as one pound. Burial layettes sets consist of a bonnet, gown, and receiving blanket. Losing a baby can be a very distressing and difficult time for parents. The hospitals ease grieving by dressing the baby in the burial layettes we provide and taking a last picture of baby snuggled in Mommy's arms. This picture is all the family will have to remember the baby by, and it is so important to have the baby dressed nicely. A letter from a major hospital states: "We want to thank you for your kind donation of burial layettes. They are so beautiful. The colors are so pretty, you can certainly tell a lot of love and effort went into the creation of these lovely outfits. We make every effort to make the grieving process as painless as possible. The beauty and caring workmanship of the outfits are a comfort to the bereaved family. Hopefully this makes the memories a little less painful. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness." Hats keep the babies warm, thus saving body energy for getting healthier and stronger Sometimes the babies frail appearance with all of the lifesaving tubes, etc. can impeded bonding between mother and child. Tiny hats on little heads cover some of the frightening tubes and allow Mom and baby to bond better. The girls are so very excited about this project and so is the R.S. FRIENDS 1. In kindergarten your idea of a good friend was the person who let you have the red crayon when all that was left was the ugly black one. 2. In first grade your idea of a good friend was the person who went to the bathroom with you and held your hand as you walked through the scary halls. 3. In second grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you stand up to the class bully. 4. In third grade your idea of a good friend was the person who shared their lunch with you when you forgot yours on the bus. 5. In fourth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who was willing to switch square dancing partners in gym so you wouldn't have to be stuck do- si-do-ing with Nasty Nicky or Smelly Susan. 6. In fifth grade your idea of a friend was the person who saved a seat on the back of the bus for you. 7. In sixth grade your idea of a friend was the person who went up to Nick or Susan, your new crush, and asked them to dance with you, so that if they said no you wouldn't have to be embarrassed. 8. In seventh grade your idea of a friend was the person who let you copy the social studies homework from the night before that you had. 9. In eighth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you pack up your stuffed animals and old baseball cards so that your room would be a "high schooler's" room, but didn't laugh at you when you finished and broke out into tears. 10. In ninth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who went with you to that "cool" party thrown by a senior so you wouldn't wind up being the only freshman there. 11. In tenth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who changed their schedule so you would have someone to sit with at lunch. 12. In eleventh grade your idea of a good friend was the person who gave you rides in their new car, convinced your parents that you shouldn't be grounded, consoled you when you broke up with Nick or Susan, and found you a date to the prom. 13. In twelfth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you pick out a college, assured you that you would get into that college, helped you deal with your parents who were having a hard time adjusting to the idea of letting you go... 14. At graduation your idea of a good friend was the person who was crying on the inside but managed the biggest smile one could give as they congratulated you. 15. The summer after twelfth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you clean up the bottles from that party, helped you sneak out of the house when you just couldn't deal with your parents, assured you that now that you and Nick or you and Susan were back together, you could make it through anything, helped you pack up for college and just silently hugged you as you looked through blurry eyes at 18 years of memories you were leaving behind, and finally on those last days of childhood, went out of their way to come over an send you off with a hug, a lot of memories, reassurance that you would make it in college as well as you had these past 18 years, and most importantly sent you off to college knowing you were loved. 16. Now, your idea of a good friend is still the person who gives you the better of the two choices, hold your hand when you're scared, helps you fight off those who try to take advantage of you, thinks of you at times when you are not there, reminds you of what you have forgotten, helps you put the past behind you but understands when you need to hold on to it a little longer, stays with you so that you have confidence, goes out of their way to make time for you, helps you clear up your mistakes, helps you deal with pressure from others, smiles for you when they are sad, helps you become a better person, and most importantly loves you! Pass on to those friends of the past, and those of the future...and those you have met along the way... Thank you for being a friend. No matter where we go or who we become, never forget who helped us get there. There's never a wrong time to pick up a phone or send a message telling your friends how much you miss them or how much you love them. You know who you are, pass it on to someone who you want to remind. Yesterday I had the wonderful opportunity of attending a special "Fireside" with the prophet at Madison Square Garden ... it was amazing to see more than 24,000 saints gathered in one place!! Anyway, in this huge crowd I ran into people I hadn't seen in years! As I was visiting with a friend she asked if I had any ideas for her to use in a class she needs to teach for a stake RS day on forgiving yourself ... sometimes forgiving others might seem hard but forgiving yourself is probably much more difficult - why is that?! Has anyone ever given a lesson on the subject or know of any talks, books, etc that my friend can use? On a YW note ... sister Hinckley told a story yesterday that just turned on that light bulb inside! She told of growing up during the depression and how she remembers that her mother always carried a silver dollar with her ... she always made sure nothing happened to it and treated it as a special possession. Then she said that we all have a silver dollar - the gospel. We need to take good care of it, make sure nothing happens to it ... treat it as a special possession. What a great little message to use with the YW! As my two YW leader friends and I talked while stuck in traffic on the way home, we jokingly argued about using the idea of handing out silver dollars to the YW ... I told them they couldn't use it because it was my idea and we were going to use it as a stake YW presidency message or at camp, and they wanted to use it in a lesson next week!! Plus, we're buying a house! Sufficeth to say, I've been very busy! For more camp songs, please see the song section under camp in the Young Women's Corner (The direct address is http://www.mormons.org/ywc/camp/campsong.htm ) The letter names of the notes have been given, in case the tunes are unfamiliar to you. Hopefully, one leader will be able to learn the tune to teach it to the girls. A plain letter, e.g.-- A, is a quarter note A-- is a half note A--/-- is a dotted half note (three counts) A--/--/-- is a whole note A^A are eighth notes A=A=A are triplets A=A=A=A are sixteenth notes A_A are tied notes A*^A are dotted eighth notes, the first note longer than the other If there are two notes with the same letter but an octave apart, one will be labelled as higher (h) or lower (L) than the other This symbol | divides the measures, if necessary Grandma Gurdy (in 4/4) Grandma Gurdy's in the cellar G^G | G^G G*^G A^G_G | Pee-yew, cain't ya smell her?
