Also, about the boy scout lists. I think I accidentally deleted an address for the boy scouts though. I believe there was one similar to this one with "lists" in the address but I can't find it now. If you could send it again I would appreciate it. Also, about the devotionals, as I said, I love all that has been sent so far but I do have another question or favor to ask. Our theme this year is "Homeward Hearts" with sub themes of "Earthly Home", "Family Home", and "Heavenly Home". If anyone has any short stories or poems that would go along with any of these themes I would love to have them. You have all been so helpful. Thanks again to everyone. On the front of the card, we cut out a circle just big enough for a Tootsie Pop to stick through and we drew a tie under it. We let the kids color and decorate the ties. On the inside, we taped a Tootsie Pop and wrote some little poem on the opposite side and "a pop for my Pop" on the side with the Tootsie Pop. I need four of these. We only have 1 hr. at bedtime for our snack and night activity! =20 For the YW: She argues about every aspect of the gospel. Today I was talking to them about profanity and taking the name of the Lord in Vane. We have a real problem in our YW's group of them taking the Lords name in vane! We talked about alot of things along these lines, she just kept saying who says it is bad who decides that a word is swear word. When I have explained that taking Lords name in Vane is against the one of the ten commandments, and is scripture from the Lord. I guess I expect the conversation to be over, but with this YW it isn't she will argue through the whole lesson. I am getting to where I don't know how to deal with her and I feel to some degree she is disruptive!! HELP! You are all so wonderful at this! Maybe you can give me some ideas on how to better aproach the problem of them taking the Lords name in Vane. It was celebrating the pioneers coming into the SL valley. Our stakes youth conference consisted of a Pioneer Trek. I'm not exactly certain how any of this happened, but somehow the stake had about 20 or so handcarts and each ward had assigned the youth into "families" with a "Ma and Pa". There were about 10 "kids" in each family which consisted of MiaMaids, Laurels, Teachers, Priests. It's kind of hard to explain.......The kids were given gunny sacks to pack their belongings in. They were allowed 20 lbs of gear (that included sleeping bags, shoes, etc) and the stake leaders weighed each sack upon arrival at the stake center. The girls were not allowed any makeup or hair stuff and the boys were not allowed any shaving stuff. They left the stake center on Monday and returned on Wednesday so they weren't gone very long,, but it was just long enough for the kids to get a feel of what life would have been like for the pioneers. They drove to somewhere in Wyoming, then unloaded all the handcarts and each "family" started out on their trek. The first day they didn't get to their camp spot until 10:30 pm then they still had to fix dinner and set up camp. Along the way, they had certain times that they announced it was "silent time" which meant they couldn't talk, they could only think to themselves. The leaders that went said those were some of the most special times for the kids because nowdays, how often does a kid take time to not talk and just think. Also that day they did a womens pull where the guys were not allowed to help the girls pull the handcart. It was very difficult for the guys to have to watch and not be able to help them, but it served the purpose of teaching the girls independence and teaching the guys how the firls can come through when they have to. Sorry this ended up being so long, but it was such a special time for our youth that i get carried away when trying to explain it. She is now one year after the second with no rejection!!!! Anyway, her mom is trying to get some quilts made- (see the following story). In our last ward, for a stake youth conference, we set up quilts all over the gym and the youth (boys included) tied quilts. It was lots of fun, and during the dance that evening, some of the leaders sat around taking turns binding them. It was very successful- Anyway, these would be greatly appreciated!- in any number and in any size!! The following is the story which hangs above the "Corinna's Quilts" cupboard at Univ. of Neb. Medical Center - with a picture of her. ( it is a little long- sorry- address to send quilts, and Corinna's Mom's email address at the end--- or email me with questions!) Corinna was busy little girl. She loved to dance and play with her sister Victoria and her doll Victoria On a pretty day she was playing dress-up. She liked wearing cheerleader pompons on her head like a wig. She got a bad tummy ache. AFter a big operation in Idaho, Corinna was taken to Primary Children's Medical Center, in Salt Lake City, UT. Corinna missed her 3 brothers and 3 sisters. She felt sad! One day a nurse named Sue put Corinna in a wheel chair and tood her out in the hall. She opened the cupboard and there was a pile fo bright and cherry quilts. There was a green one with frogs on it, an orange one with cats, red ones and blue ones. Sue let Corinna pick and one she wanted. She chose a pink one with flowers. Sue took Corinna back to her room and let her help put the quilt on her bed. Corinna stayed at PCMC for about 5 weeks. There were lots of hard things for Corinna to do. She tried so hard to be brave and to understand. She was always very excited when she got to pick out a new soft quilt for her bed. It brightened up her room adn made her feel cheery. That fall Corinna was called to go to the Univ. of Neb. Med. Cnt. in Omaha, Neb. for a small intestine transplant. When Corinna woke up she was cold. The blanket they gave her was brown and not very snugly. Corinna called her grandma in Missouri and told her that the hospital was nice, but their blankets were, "scratchy and yucky". Grandma got busy and make a pink quilt with baby lambs on it for Corinna. She was very happy to have a cuddly quilt. It made her feel lots better. Then it got dirty and Mom had to take it to be washed. She was sad without her quilt. So Grandma made another quilt with 'Annie' all over it. Now Corinna could have a soft quilt all the time. One day Corinna told her mommy that she was sad. There were other sick children at the hospital who didn't have soft quilts on their beds. Mommy called grandma, and grandma called her friends and they all started making quilts. Lisa from the hospital said they would need about 100 quilts to start using them. The YW in teh LDS Omaha, Neb. stake said they would make 100 quilts. They aded that to grandma's 100. Every one called them "Corinna's Quilts" After two transplants Corinna got to go home to Idaho. She loves going to school, jumping on the trampoline, and playing with her friends. She will always remember all of her good friends in Neb. and talks of them often. Corinna knows that there are lots of hard things to do at the hospital, but she hopes having a bright quilt will make things better. SO..... if you are having a hard day, wrap yourself in a "Corinna's Quilt" and that will be a hug from Corinna! This little girl spent the most part of two years there with her mother- they said it really does make a difference-- and all of the children appreciated the quilts! When it opens, hit "Lookup", then "Ward Library Index". A window will open where you type in your topic - it will then show articles, stories, poems, videos, etc. pertaining to that topic. It will also give you a brief synopsis of the story, article or whatever. If you are interested, there is a web site at infobases.com. Hope this helps! I was excited to read Diane Iverson's comments about the journal entries. We just returned from Utah and our son's graduation from BYU yesterday and got a phone call asking my husband and I to be part of a program for the YW in our ward that will focus on doing work for the dead. We have been asked to take part by reading some journal entries of a man and woman (preferably a couple). Neither of us have family journal entries of our ancestors, so I'm hoping Diane or anyone would be willing to share with me where to find some good ones (i.e. books, old Ensigns, etc.) or send me some you have. If I had known before we went to Utah I would've searched the bookstores for such info, but I don't have access to that mtl here in Ohio. Thank you so much for any help you can offer. This program we will be in sounds wonderful, so I want to do my best to contribute to it! Thanks for writing back. Our son is Bryan Zitzman. He was in the Odgen Utah mission and I think he was in Rock Springs in the fall/winter of 1992. I would have to go back and look through records to be sure of the dates, but I'm pretty sure it was his first area. We received a wonderful letter from a special sister in his area - I believe she was a seminary teacher - sharing with us some special thoughts about Bryan and I regret not writing her back. I know I still have her letter, so I will have to try and find it and let you know her name. Maybe you would know her although I'm sure there are ALOT of Mormons in Rock Springs, so you may not. Bryan married a wonderful young lady from Calif. in Dec. 1997 in the Los Angeles Temple. They are a special couple and we loved being with them this week. He will be staying at the Y where he has been accepted into the master's program for marriage and family counseling. She graduated last Aug. with a teaching degree from the Y but hasn't been able to get a teaching job yet so is working from Feature Family Films and hoping to start a family soon! Thanks again for your reply. Love, Linda Zitzman - - To unsubscribe to lds-yw, send an email to "majordomo@xmission.com" with "unsubscribe lds-yw" in the body of the message. I lived in St. Louis from January 92 - June 95 we were in the Rockwood Ward. Do you know anyone who lives there? I loved St. Louis, we were there while my husband went to school at Logan College of Chiropractic. We lived in Ballwin, MO. My brother-in-law is in the Parkway Ward (Barry & Debby Held.) I am looking for ideas for our Stake. We want to give a variety of ideas to the Wards, so they can create fun, enriching and spiritual activities for their Primaires. Let me know if you know anyone or come up with any more great ideas. the St.Louis Temple is just beautiful. I went through it back in May of last year, what a delight it was! Take care! For Personal Progress, use the following statement - If you have to eat a frog, you don't want to look at it too long - here in this area we can find candy frogs and it's fun to give this handout along with the frogs, 2. Another inexpensice idea is to have a "Sweatin to the Oldies" Night with the YM. 3. Have a night where you play games centered around the General Authorities = one game might be to see who can identify either the General Authorities or the Church Presidents the fastest. Or play Fruit Basket using the names of 5 General Authorities. When someone says Gordon B. Hinckley, everyone switches. Have a Lamanite-Nephite Fight by tying balloons on the ankles of the you. Everyone tries to stomp the balloon and pop it. 4. The instructions for Musical Charades is found in the Young Women's Corner at Mormons@mormon.org 5. I think church policy is that if a girl is playing in a sport at school then she should not be on the church tean for that same sport. 6. Someone asked about obtaining permission from the malls for certain activities. The keys here is to make sure the mall know that the youth will not be running throughout the mall unattended. We have never had a problem. Hope these help. June in Logan - - To unsubscribe to lds-yw, send an email to "majordomo@xmission.com" with "unsubscribe lds-yw" in the body of the message.
