We joined the church through the missionaries and then they moved on and were sent home. We still believed the church was true and went to be taught. The memebers were wonderful to us. they wanted to know and learn about us - why we changed religions, what we were majoring in in college, where our family was from, what sports of interests we had and many other topics. We of course felt they were very interested in us not just as a vew recurit but as a true friend. And the more they found out about us the more we had in common. those who were interested in the same things we did would call us and go to sporting events or study together or whatever. We had a new son and we shared parenting ideas also. We had a couple who lived close to us and we would call each other to borrow a cup of popcorn about 11 pm at night so we could stay up and study more or have a date at home. We shared babysitting and even my two visiting teachers came over one day and announced to me they were taking my two children and I was to spend the day doing whatever I wanted to - I was by that time expecting our 3rd son. But my testimony is also based on the love these people had for us as individuals. they "loved us in the church" not just to be a memeber because the missionaries did that but to realize we might have worn sleeveless dresses at first and even shorts to the first couple activiites that weren't church approved length, but they didn't give up on us and didn't judge us but loved us and help build our testimonies of the love of Christ for all people. And now as we have moved out to Utah we were loved into this new ward. They came over the very day we moved in and helped unload out TWO huge trucks of household things(by this time we have 7 children). The youth of the ward came over the next day and knocked on the door and said "do you have any kids our age?" Boy, our kids reeally felt loved in to this ward and new area. I believe if the adults can find out about the youth in thier wards and treat them as new members they will have great relationships. As one of our activities we are having the youth and the people over 55 come and play some games to see if the adults can put the youth into family names, and the youth know the first names of the adults. Find out about the youth and call them by name and find out what they are interested in and go to some of those sporting events or concerts or activities. Ask them about things they a re interested in also. They will love the attention of another adult just like we loved the attention and interest the memeber took in us as we joined the church of Jesus Christ and they showed us what Christ would do to love the people no matter where they came from or looked like. Sorry this is so long but I sure do appreciate all the people who have not judged us and loved us into the church. We joined the church in Fort Collins, colo as college students, and now live in Logan ut. Good luck on the talk. Diane ps. also about savin g one young women - we feel the missionaries who took the time in their lives to go on a mission was worthwhile to us as we joined the church and then now have sent 3 of our sons on missions to share their testimonies with others and change their lives. One son went to Salt Lake City, another to New York state and then the other to Mexico City. We will always be grateful for the missionaries who took their calling seriously and taught with the spirit of the Lord. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - - To unsubscribe to lds-yw, send an email to "majordomo@xmission.com" with "unsubscribe lds-yw" in the body of the message. If you want to chose something else to make bracelets go for it. Lots of things work. But this to me is a silly discussion because i= t is not marijuana. Lots of plants are related to each other but that doesn't mean they ARE each other. Opium is made from a type of poppy pla= nt but I still plant poppies in my yard. They are beautiful creations - the devil does change beautiful things into something harmful in may areas of our life. We need to avoid those things he perverts - not the original creation God created for us. =20 Just my two cents. I have been reading these responses on the hemp issue. If it was not a problem, in my opinion, there would not have to be the bantering back and forth about the definition of it. If it is an issue, shouldn't that make the decision on whether it is prop= er for camp or not? Last year, my stake used it as a stake craft (friendship bracelets). Whe= n I first heard about it the first thought that came to my mind was "regardle= ss of the fact that they can't smoke it, why are they handing out marijuana = to the girls?" Some of those girls know the association without the history and felt a little odd using it. Especially, since some of their parents told them they couldn't buy one at home. I don't know the history of hemp, all I know is that it is "associated" with marijuana, and that it is a popular product on sale these days by mostly marijuana users, or promoters! I do not feel I need to support their cause. I appreciate the facts about the different parts of the marijuana plant.=20 If it is used in items I buy on a regular basis, I don't know about it, and = I don't care. But to use something because it is popular is not justification enough for me. You can make the same bracelets out of embroidery thread, and that has no association to the "appearance of evil" to me. I (personally) would not have it as a craft for the mere purpose of the fa= ct that I don't feel I need to give a lesson on the history of it to justify the use of it. I feel that if there are things we still need to use that Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington used, maybe we should still be using the oil lamp, or the wagon. Obviously, that is what invention is all about, to come up with the light bulb, the automobile, or paper from a tree. Once again, I hope I haven't offended anyone. I only speak of my opinion. I suggest we all seek the counsel of the Lord, and our bishops. Remember to ask yourself, "would Jesus do this?" I'm still trying to answer that question. - -----Original Message----- From: Lori Dickson To: lds-yw@lists.xmission.com Date: Sunday, July 12, 1998 06:36 PM Subject: Re: (lds-yw) Hemp -- Encarta=AE Concise Encyclopedia Article >Not all hemp is Marijahna hemp, there are many different types . rope an= d >necklace hemp are most likely from different types. > >_____________________________________________________________________ >You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. >Get completely free e-mail from Juno at http://www.juno.com >Or call Juno at (800) 654-JUNO [654-5866] > >- > To unsubscribe to lds-yw, send an email to "majordomo@xmission.com" > with "unsubscribe lds-yw" in the body of the message. > For information on digests or retrieving files and old messages send > "help" to the same address. I found a glycerine soap making kit at WalMart for about $15.00. It has glycerine soap, food coloring, fragrance drops, and molds. The soap comes in a sheet that's scored into squares. You cut off the squares as you need them. You just heat up the soap in the microwave, add the color and fragrance, and pour it into the molds. It takes approx. 1/2 hour to set up depending on the size of the bar. Then we wrapped them in celophane and tied ribbon around them. The girls really liked it. It wasn't very messy, and there's no harsh chemicals to deal with. If you don't have a WalMart where you live, you might try your local craft store. I've also seen the kits at Michael's. It is very easy but does take 15 to 20 minutes on a girl with long hair. The girls (and even a few leaders) are very excited about getting them done. Just to warn you - I did it on my daughter and it lasted over 2 weeks before I finally made her take it out. I had to take it out carefully so I didn't cut her hair. First, did just one person do the wraps, or did several? Did you have a sign up or did they wait in line or how did you manage crowd control? How popular was it? I bought the book from Amazon.com and got a bunch of embroidery floss in the value colors from a store going out of business.....I haven't practiced yet, because it looks pretty easy, but should I be practicing?
