We live in Provo, Utah and planned to go to southern Utah this week but because of the heat conditions we bagged it at the last minute and went up the canyon for one day...had workshops about spiritual defense...wearing the full armor of God...and lots of activities...and dinner. Then we had a sleepover in a backyard (one for boys and another for girls) and then got up early and headed for Salt Lake City. We hiked to Ensign Peak, learned the history of it and got to tour the temple grounds (inside where the brides all were posing for pictures) , learned about the symbolism of the markings outside on the temple, and other historical sights, ate lunch and then headed for the Fun Dome (lazer tag, min. golf, slick track, rides, 3D theater, etc. and the kids wanted to stay forever. We had a great time and had a lot of spiritual instruction, dating included, and took pride in our heritage. I had a ball and think the kids did too. I am so tired, but had a ball. At the beginning of the year, we had each YW chose one standard, and every other week we have a YW teach a mini-lesson (3-5 minutes) on the standard she chose. I make the handouts for them and use the survival kit ideas. They are found in the book "YW Standards of Personal Worthiness" by Linda Dastrup. The book also contains 1-2 activity outlines for each standard. It's a great book, well worth the $7.50! Does anyone have any ideas for the Laurel 2 responsibility #8? (Make something that will represent your understanding of and commitment to the Young Women Them. It should be something that can serve as a reminder of you commitment to gospel values throughout your life.) I would like to give my girls some ideas to help them get this one done. I have 4 or 5 laurels who only have this left to do. Thanks, Donna - - To unsubscribe to lds-yw, send an email to "majordomo@xmission.com" with "unsubscribe lds-yw" in the body of the message. Another did a quilt, and each square represented a value, etc. Hope this helps Jan - - To unsubscribe to lds-yw, send an email to "majordomo@xmission.com" with "unsubscribe lds-yw" in the body of the message.
