We try to coordinate the color and value in all that we do so that it becomes engrained in the minds of the girls.) The President usually does it and it lasts about 2 - 5 minutes. Just like the primary, sunday school and RS and > Priesthood. > We were told in a regional meeting that we could skip around in the lesson manual. That the only thing we needed to keep in mind was that we were to teach the complete unit and not just one lesson out of the unit. If you look in the front of the lesson manual in the introduction under unit teaching it states "In teaching these units, assess the needs of the YW in your class by asking yourself the following questions: What problems are they facing? What do they already know about the subject? What previous lessons have they had on the subject? Which of these lessons best meet their needs? When you have carefully considered the needs of your YW, study the lesson titles and objectives of each lesson to determine which lessons will best meet those needs. By planning well in advance, you can be sure that the YW will receive lessons in all units and that you will provide a complete, balanced curriculum." In reading this it sounds like they would like us to consider the needs of our classes in determining the order in which we teach the lessons. That is the beauty of these lesson manuals, we can taylor the lessons to the needs of the YW in our ward. We have been using conference talks once a month as a way to familiarize the girls with current counsel from our prophets. We chose a talk that goes along with the theme from the conference issues. We skip around and choose lessons that go along with the theme of the month. We sit down in October and November and plan our our lesson schedule for the coming year. I also tell my counselors to be open to inspiration. If they know their girls have a need that comes up during the year, they are free to use conference talks or another lesson that we did not have time to cover to meet that need. Their right to inspiration for their girls supercedes our yearly outline. As our ward would say "SWEET" This letter rebukes them in a manner where they begin to realize what they are doing is wrong. What a powerful message. It is sad because it is true in a lot of wards throughout the world. Thanks for sharing it! My name is Geri, I live in GA...recently moved from Canada. A little ways from home!!... I am once again in YW, and as always Ilove the young women! I am having somewhat of a tough time though as my pres. doesn't enjoy a lot of the activities that are being enjoyed all over the world. I sugested the Candy Bar activity, and she doesn't want the girls to think that it is like that in choosing a husband. I suggestother "fun" activities that have a "moral" to them and she vitos them because she doesn't want artificial or contrived activities. I need some help as to what I can do! Maybe I just need some one to say Just do what she says... but I have been told by some girls that they don't want to come to YW act. because they aren't fun anymore...it is breaking my heart. Help I feel trapped. Geri in GA - - To unsubscribe to lds-yw, send an email to "majordomo@xmission.com" with "unsubscribe lds-yw" in the body of the message. Maybe you could suggest that the girls go up to the yw pres herself and let her know why they don't enjoy coming to yw activities. The only other thing that I can think of is to talk to your bishop and seek his advice and counsel to help you in this matter. Hopefully things will be resolved. When we camp as a stake in ward groups, there are all the major activities done as a stake together with a few hours a day for in camp with wards time, usually our testimony meeting is then on a ward level with a stake program to set the tone. We have camped as one ward at a time also, the bonding with the girls and leaders is greater there than the other ways. This summer was the firts in levels as a stake, it did increase the public network of LDS friendships. So we vary it, the wards are notified shortly after camp what way it will be the next year.
