We started by having the YW give their mothers a invitation that was a flower put together by my first counselor with an invitation attached to it. Then we told the girls that we wanted them to find out things about their mother and the night of the dinner they each got up and read them. We wanted to have them put this with their family history to go with the theme this year. The girls had a hard time starting on this project but once we gave them some idea of questions to ask they did fine. I then put these papers together for each of them with a nice cover, so they would have something nice to save them in. We had a dinner where each of the YW were suppose to bring a favorite dish of their mothers or something from their heritage. We had allot of fun and I'm sure the mothers felt appreciated and loved! Three that have had a strong effect was; 1: a play that I will be posting in a few more days (probably to detailed for you for Oct.) 2. our stake Pres conducted an open discussion on the standards of youth. His focus was you want temple marriage and eternal life, but by not following the prophet now, odds are you will not attain that goal. He lead an open discussion on each area of the 'For Strength of Youth'. He was well prepared with statistics, stories, quotes and scriptures for each question. He brought the youth out in their objections to no boy girl interaction before fourteen, no dating and what is a date before 16, no you should not attend the school afternoon dances prior to fourteen. The youth with his leadership drafted their own stake title of liberty. Only a very in tune, loving, prepared leader could do this, but it was great and had a lasting effect on many youth. 3. opening took place, then about a dozen girls (recent newlyweds that most of the girls should know) in full wedding dresses, spotlighted in a slghtly lit room, walked down the aisles, to 'I hope to see the temple'. Two of of the girls spoke about their feelings about temple marriage. A well known older sister spoke about eternal families. A couple special musical numbers and close. The spotlighted brides stood in front the whole time, a very large drawing of the temple in the background. I hope this helps stir some thoughts to make the way for the spirit more open. One of the things we have tried that has seemed effective, was to do an annual training once a year in an informal atmosphere, one ward at a time. We prayerfully approached each meeting on a more personal basis. We suggested each leader bring their PP and handbook, then we had them follow along in any area covered. this small intimate setting created an atmosphere for interchange not just speaking. It is tough to reach all wards one at a time, but well worth it. Ricki > -----Original Message----- > From: S. They modeled an outfit of their mom's that they felt represented their mom to them. They were to keep it a secret and enlist the help of their dad in getting the clothing they needed. We had them write up why they choose this particular outfit and what their mom meant to them-keeping everything very positive and loving. We gathered the moms in a room, the girls dressed and waited for their turn to model. As they were modeling, the leaders read what the girl had written. We then took a picture of the mother and daughter at the end of each "reading" which we gave to the moms after they were developed. One thing I would do differently is have the things the girls had written about their moms written up on a nice piece of paper and give to the mom as a favor-(us moms always like to hear the positive things our kids have to say about us and consider anything written a keepsake!) We then served a nice dessert and punch and the moms and daughters had time to visit and laugh together. Of course this night was also preceded by a nice invitation. cathie - -----Original Message----- From: T Tipene To: lds-yw@lists.xmission.com Date: Tuesday, August 18, 1998 3:09 AM Subject: (lds-yw) Mother-daughter evening >Hello everyone. We are have them bring their own jar. I am using the type of jar that has a roundish pull off glass lid. Anyway we are using Tissue paper in all the YW value colors, tearing or cutting the paper in different shapes, then using all purpose glue or mog poge (?spelling), brush over the jar and place your tissue. When complete brush a thin layer of glue substance over the entire surface. It really looks cool. We did this same technique with a photo mat with the YW at camp. We then gave them a Family proclamation to put in this decorated matt. - - To unsubscribe to lds-yw, send an email to "majordomo@xmission.com" with "unsubscribe lds-yw" in the body of the message.
