Who just moved into my ward, and we were both out of YW at the same time. She is now my forever friend. Although the miles seperate us we still talk on a weekly basis. We both served missions. And I thank the Lord everyday for my friend, and had it not been that I had to go the RS I may have never met her. There are blessing in everything. Hold on the Lord will bless you. I just stumbled on his web site a few weeks ago, thru Deseret Book, http://www.deseretbook.com/~DBS.cxi?w=Bytheway&sb=Go (this isn't the site that you could listen to excerpts of the tapes, can't find it right now) I don't have the one "What are you carrying in your Backpack". I have "What I Wish I Knew in High School" and have listened to others of his. Of the ones I have heard, the themes are very similar thru all his talks and tapes (went to the Broadcast of his talk tonight, also). My problem is I am driving when I listen so I am not writing notes and my mental notes, well, they aren't what they used to be... Anyway, he talks about how being popular isn't what's important, but, being respected and respecting others is. Tonight's talk was mostly on chastity- also, a big theme in his tapes. He uses lots of excellent quotes from prophets and Book of Mormon scriptures/stories and relates it to here and now. Does anyone else have more input about the "Backpack" tape? You can also use (instead of 3 sixes) the sequence 154 (also holding the ALT button down). I don't know who came up with it, but it's cute. Sorry it isn't working for you. It is his or her responsibility to gather the rides for the youth. We give them the dates of the Stake Activities in advance, since most fall on same weekend of each month. They pass the paper around in R.S., and Primary. Encouraging all parents to sign up at least once, and let us know how may seats are available in their cars. We always count on the highest number of youth that can go. They must sign up a week before the activity. We realize that many work or have other commitments, but if there is a remote chance they can go we ask them to sign up. We then plan our rides accordingly. We meet at the church, at a designated time. Count heads, sort out, who is riding where. The last two activities we have sent extra rides home. We always have one priesthood leader drive and try to have someone from either the YM, or YW presidency drive. This really takes the pressure of the Presidency, we have enough to worry about. We do assist the parent doing this by passing the sheet and encouraging the youth.
