Also, archiving is optional. Both of my lists are not archived -- so it's not a problem. How fast would the list problem need to be solved? If we can wait for Onelist, that seems an ideal setup. However, I get the feeling that more people would rather contribute money and keep the list where it is. If so, I can't really help. Jenny would have to contact the server and make arrangements. I do not know the exact time frame we have for making a decision. I did just try calling xmission and Jason was out of the office. Last time I contacted them, one of the other techs said he was aware that there were a lot of people on the list and sounded like they would not abruptly shut the service down.... Anyone from Utah care to call as it is a local call for you? 1 801 539 0852 Go to tech support and talk to Jason directly to get the real answers. They are there until 9pm your time. Find out our time frame and post it to the list? When I talked to xmission I asked the sales department to "sell" me on xmission as opposed to leaving and going to a free service. I was disappointed in his inability to do so. I am not sure of the right or wrong way to do this. To go free or stay xmission. I guess we can contact the pages that advertise the list if we switch. So others many find the list and continue to add people to it. Jenny... How do you feel? I guess it is up to you... Wendy can help you the free way... What do you feel is the best thing to do? And whatever your choice I will back you 100%! I bet all others will do the same. The Savior is dear to me .. I love these girls .. I enjoy this list. But, ultimately the decision should be Jenny's. Here are a few samples: - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- From: @usa.net Subject: Welcome To: @makelist.com Dear Friends, I am experimenting with a new list server on the Internet. I plan to send all my future messages through this list server. In fact, this message itself is being sent through this list server (k_arvind@makelist.com hosted by www.findmail.com). I believe that www.findmail.com is the next greatest Internet idea after hotmail. This site allows you to set up and manage your own mailing lists. I have set up a mailing list (@makelist.com) of all my friends with whom I have been sharing interesting, amusing, and/or useful information. I plan to route all my messages through this mailing list in future. The mailing list is automatically archived at www.findmail.com, and any of you on the mailing list may access it any time using a web browser (isn't that a great convenience? :-). If you wish to be removed from this mailing list at any time, just follow the instructions that appear at the end of any message sent to list. Alternately, please contact me at @usa.net or @flash.net. Thank you. Hope you will find the messages that appear on this list entertaining and/or useful. Best Regards, - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- From: <@io.com> Subject: Hi www.findmail.com is a fantastic site -- you're the DejaNews of mailing lists (fast, complete, easy to use, powerful). You need to advertise more; I've been looking for a site like this for months and only found www.reference.com (very slow and a poor user interface). I really like the way you keep track of the lists I want to watch. I also like the way you make it easy to add new lists to your archive (there are so many mailing lists with important content being lost because maintaining archives is such a pain). I also like your thread-display and search features. The permanent URL you use to refer to a mailing list is also a great idea -- very handy when telling someone "Yeah, I think someone else had the same problem -- do a search at http://www.findmail.com/list/perl-win32-users/."). - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- From: @imagixx.net Subject: [FindMail Comments] Thanks Thank you! I am the course director of the European Masters of Arts in the department. I just wanted to say thanks for creating this excellent service. As I believe list servers are one of the best things about the net. And simplifying the proceedure and making it widely available is a terrific thing to have done. My only questions are (if this is not too nosy) who are you and why have you done it. Pure net gift economy altruism? Or is there a more complex story. Our students make much use of lists and so any new development in this field is good for my students and me to know about. Thanks again. [FindMail: Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Like other Internet services, we provide a variety of useful services and expect the mix to produce goodwill and profits down the road.] - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- From: @mail.otenet.gr YOU ARE " THE BEST". - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- From: @alum.mit.edu Subject: [FindMail Comments] Thanks I just wanted to thank you for this excellent service. Not only have you un-selfishly made the service free, you have also designed an excellent system. The fact that you offer Author Profiles and excellent data indexing (like Top Cited URL's) is great. You guys/gals did a wonderful job. Keep up the good work (i.e. a Java interface)! - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- From: @fs2.scg.man.ac.uk Subject: [FindMail Comments] Still another suggestion Dear Sir, As always, I am impressed by the speed at which you responded to my query. I'd like to suggest a feature: "Mail this story" This is now found in most news sites, ie ZDNet etc. And is quite useful to send titbits of information to ourselves or to a friend. Now with FINDMAIL being my premier news site for *MY* interests, I'll love such a feature here! Cheers, keep up the good work! [FindMail: Thanks for the suggestion. The 'forward' link on the top of every message will allow you to do this now.] - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- From: @solar.stanford.edu Subject: [FindMail Comments] Thanks! Finally I can make a mailing list for people with POTS and the people that take care of them. No ads too! - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- From: @aries.usno.navy.mil Subject: Re: [FindMail Comments] users with multiple addresses Your service has come in handy. It seems to work very well. I have never seen something so fast!! I have an important question for you. I would like to move my existing mailing list to your system but I would like to avoid advertising inside each mail. For the moment, I only see this message, inside each mail: >>Start Your Own Free Mailing List at http://www.MakeList.com ! I think that my subscribers can accept that but I am sure that they wouldn't accept it if there were third party advertising inside each mail. So my question is: Do you plan to add third party advertisings inside each mail ? If the answer is yes, how can I avoid it? For example, paying a little fee? ]FindMail: No ads in messages at this time, and if we do start to add such ads, we will allow you to avoid them with a small fee. ] - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- From: @radian.net Subject: [staff] Hot Dog, It Works!
